My name is John Wayne Austinson and I am running for State Representative for District 26B.

I was born and raised in Rochester Minnesota and am the youngest of three children. My father Paul was a school counselor in the Rochester School District, and my mother Jane, was a homemaker and a socialite who worked at various places in Rochester.   I have been working ever since I was 10 years old, where my first job was a paper boy.  I have worked a variety of other jobs since, in food service, retail, farmers and construction work, and even for the National Football League.  I understand what hard work is and would be honored to work for all people in District 26B.

I graduated from Rochester John Marshall High School in 1986, went on to get my A.A. degree from RCC (now known as RCTC), a B.A. degree in education from Mankato State, a M.S. degree in Leadership, Marketing, and Management, and an Athletic Director certification, both from Winona State University.

My wife Julie and I currently live in Eyota, MN with my stepson Benjamin who is a sophomore at Dover-Eyota High School.  Julie and I both work in the education field. Julie has been a school counselor for a total of 20 years in the Rochester and Elgin-Millville Public School Districts.  I have been a high school social studies teacher and football coach for 25 years in the Rochester and Byron school districts.

I firmly believe in community and helping others.  I have delivered food for Meals-On-Wheels, assisted swimming lessons for special needs students, organized and helped raise thousands of dollars for Juvenile Diabetes and over 45 local scholarships through the Brenndan Ryan Memorial Golf Tournament, started the Byron Athletic Hall of Fame, hosted leadership camps for young men across the country through the NFL, and currently serve on the board of the Byron Community Foundation.

I would be honored to serve the people of House District 26B in the Legislature.  I do not consider myself a typical politician, but believe in servant leadership where I lead by example, through hard work, alongside others to benefit the well-being and quality of life of those within my community.  If you are like me and tired of the partisanship, gridlock, false promises, and half efforts by politicians and believe it should better, please join my team and together we can make it better!
