Vamsi Chalamalla

I am a postdoctoral research associate at Univ. of North Carolina Chapel Hill since Dec. 2015. Prior to that I did my PhD at University of California San Diego.

Recently, as part of the collaboration between research groups at UNC and UCSD, we developed a multi-scale ocean turbulence model called SOMAR-LES which combines the adaptive grid refinement feature of SOMAR with turbulence resolving 3D LES model. This multi-scale modeling technique allows us to perform high resolution large scale simulations at a reduced computational cost. Large scale processes and small scale turbulence can be accurately represented in this two-way coupled numerical model. Code will soon be available for download on github repository.
