Vamsi Chalamalla

I am a postdoctoral research associate at Univ. of North Carolina Chapel Hill since Dec. 2015. Prior to that I did my PhD at University of California San Diego. 

My research focuses on developing new modeling techniques to study turbulence in oceanic flows. Recently, as part of the collaboration between research groups at UNC and UCSD, we developed a multi-scale ocean turbulence model called SOMAR-LES which combines the adaptive grid refinement feature of SOMAR with turbulence resolving 3D LES model. This multi-scale modeling technique allows us to perform high resolution large scale simulations at a reduced computational cost. Large scale processes and small scale turbulence can be accurately represented in this coupled numerical model.
