Cotton Bowl Programs

These are the sportswriter's copies that were on file in a major Dallas newspaper's sports department. They remained on file until the day the sports editor told his secretary to throw them out. I was there to act as the waste basket.

Each of these early Cotton Bowl programs include stories by AP and local newspapers about the school's year and the conference races that year. The ads are a hoot. They are as fun to look at as the mug shots, etc.

1948 -- Penn State vs. SMU, excellent condition, even has typed carbon copy the sportswriter prepared of game's statistics. $100 SOLD

x-1949 -- Oregon vs. SMU, excellent condition. $100

x-1950 -- North Carolina vs. Rice, excellent condition. $100.

1951 -- Tennessee vs. Texas, excellent condition. Sports editor circled the date in pencil and wrote "File" ... has a little water damage on a small corner on last half of book. Back ad is Doak Walker selling Dr Pepper. $100. One just like this sold on e-bay recently for $107.50. SOLD

x-1952 -- Kentucky vs. TCU, excellent condition. $100.

1953 -- Tennessee vs. Texas, excellent condition. $100. SOLD

x-1954 -- The 1954 Cotton Bowl was the famous game Alabama's Tommy Lewis came off the sidelines to tackle Rice's Halfback Dicky Moegle. Rice was awarded a TD as the officials assumed he would have gone all the way if Lewis hadn't interfered. This near mint program will amaze you at how few 200-pounders played the game back then. ALABAMA'S Quarterback was BART STARR! This program was used by the sportswriter covering the game that day for one of the major Dallas newspapers. $175.

x-1966 -- SMU vs. Georgia, excellent condition, $50.

1981 -- Alabama vs. Baylor, excellent condition, $25. SOLD

x-1995 -- USC vs. Texas Tech, good condition, rain on it a little. $25.
