Vineland First United Methodist Church

Vineland First UMC is a community of faith open to all, journeying through life together to understand and live out the teachings, beliefs, and life of Jesus Christ.

Welcome to Vineland First United Methodist Church!  If you were searching for us or found us by mistake we welcome you and invite you to worship with us and  discover a place to live out your faith in Jesus Christ.  Our pastor is the Rev. Sue Flicker, appointed July, 2016 by the Rev. John Schol, Resident Bishop of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference. We welcome her openly as we begin our 5th year of ministry together! Our intergenerational congregation is blessed by her presence; she will inspire you and walk side-by-side with you in your journey of faith.

We offer traditional worship on Sunday mornings, including organ music, the Cathedral Choir, bell choir and children’s choir.  Sunday School is held from September through May at 9:30 a.m. for all ages.  Click on the link for CrossRoads, our monthly emergent worship experience and plan to join us.  We are the home of ARISE!: a summer Bible school experience for the children of downtown Vineland.

The city of Vineland is revitalizing and discovering new ways to be relevant in a changing culture.  First Church is also experiencing the power of the Spirit in calling us to a new future, revitalizing our faith and call to ministry in a traditional church atmosphere with rich history.

We pray you will take some time and search our site and learn a little about us, our ministry, and our mission. We have much to offer the community of Vineland and pray that you will join us as we follow the Great Commissioning giving to each and everyone of us... "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew 28:16-20).

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE GREATER NJ ANNUAL CONFERENCE & BISHOP SCHOL

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” – Galatians 6:2

Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

When people hurt, United Methodists help. After Superstorm Sandy, United Methodists from around the world sent donations for our recovery. One of the first and most generous United Methodist conferences to respond with financial gifts and volunteers was the West Virginia Conference. Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball brought a group of volunteers. I imagine you have already heard about the devastating floods in West Virginia that destroyed thousands of homes and devastated towns. I am also imagining a generous gift from GNJ to assist them in their recovery. They carried our burden in their heart after Sandy and now it is our opportunity to lift them up through our prayers and gifts.

I know that many of our early responders have already headed to West Virginia. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to be United Methodists who show up when people hurt. I also know that as faithful United Methodists we are already giving of ourselves through prayer and donations to help those in need. I’m calling on our congregations to reach further and deeper to help bear their burden. This Sunday, July 10, I’m asking every congregation in Greater New Jersey to take up a special offering to be sent to the West Virginia United Methodist Disaster Response #935 through UMCOR. Please use the art below to announce this offering on Facebook, in newsletters or in your bulletin. You can send your congregation’s check (payable to Greater New Jersey) to our treasurer and receive credit here in GNJ and with UMCOR:

West Virginia Flooding #935
205 Jumping Brook Rd.
Neptune, NJ 07753

It’s in moments like these our light shines brightest and lives are forever changed. Let’s continue to lift up West Virginia and those affected by the floods in our prayers and may we ourselves be a small part of the answers to them.

Keep the faith!

John
