I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Missouri- St. Louis (UMSL) in Bob Ricklefs' Lab. I am investigating the role that pathogens play in determining patterns of avian abundance and distribution on a regional scale. I am also interested in the coevolutionary dynamics of hosts and pathogens and in the evolutionary history and ecology of birds in general.
Besides doing research I am a teaching assistant at UMSL. Recently I designed an ornithology laboratory course which I will post on this website. Ornithology labs are often designed for schools with large teaching collections and other resources. The lab I wrote is designed for schools like UMSL, which do not have large teaching collections (or even a museum within driving distance), and for schools which do not have large teaching budgets as is likely to be more common given the state of our economy. I have also taught an introductory biology laboratory course at UMSL. I have written several labs and exercises for this course as well, which I will also make available on this website.
