The 10U, 12U, and 14U teams all traveled to the Peoria area to compete over the 4th of July weekend. The 10U made its 2nd straight appearance in the NSA State title game. The young ladies battled back out of the consolation bracket and forced a game 2 before falling in an exciting game. The 12U gave up less than 2 runs a game during their run, falling just short of the trophy round in their NSA tournament. Fresh off the previous week's NSA Championship, the 14U battled in the ASA State Tournament. The 14U battled hard and brought home 4th place hardware.
Three tournaments entered in June, three Championship game
appearances. The Elite 10U Softball team continues to experience success on the
softball diamond as they made runs for the title in all three tournaments
entered in June. The month started off seeing the Elite taking runner-up in the
Illini Orange & Blue Classic held in Champaign the weekend of June 5th
through 7th. In the Championship game, the Elite took an early lead
and held the lead until the bottom of the 5th when Tolono tied it
up. The Elite would bounce back and score 2 runs in the top of the 6th,
but once again couldn’t close the game out as they gave up 2 runs with 2 outs
in the bottom of the inning. It was a tough loss as they ended up losing in
extra innings in walk off fashion. The Elite followed that tournament run with
another stellar performance in a loaded field at the Mattoon NSA Classic the
weekend of June 12th through 14th. After falling early in
bracket play to the Mattoon Pride by a score of 4-3, the Elite fought through
the loser’s bracket to return to the championship game. The feisty squad won 4
straight games over Effingham, Mattoon Pride 9U, Charleston and the Mattoon
Cobras. Waiting in the championship game for the Elite was another shot at the
Pride. The Elite jumped out early scoring a run in the top of the 1st
and led until the 5th inning. Once again, the Elite would finish
second as they lost in walk off fashion as the Pride scored 2 runs in the
bottom half of the last inning to capture the crown 5-4. The excellent month of
play wrapped up Father’s Day weekend as the Elite took home the Championship
Trophy in The Mt. Zion Father’s Day Invitational. The Elite went undefeated on
the weekend outscoring their opponents 51 to 7. They posted wins over Shelbyville,
Westville and Mt. Zion and then took care of Monticello in the championship
game. The Elite softball team is made up of young ladies from Tuscola and Villa
Grove and have a current record of 39 wins against 13 losses, of which 8 have
been by 1 run. Taking home hardware in these tournaments were Ryan Barrett, Ava
Boyer, Ella Boyer, Alex Brown, Alison Burnett, Maci Clodfelder, Kaitlyn Drew, Marley
Good, Kyla Gough, Taylor Musgrave, Ashtin Rollings, and Vanessa Wright. The
Elite Softball team is competitive girls travel softball team out of Villa
Grove. The Elite Softball program consists of teams playing at the 8U, 10U, 12U
and 14U levels.
The 10U, 12U, and 14U teams will all be in action during the Mt Zion tournament over Father's Day weekend. The Elite teams will be wearing their special edition "Save 2nd Base" uniforms for Breast Cancer Awareness. The 10U and 12U teams traveled to Jacksonville over Memorial Day weekend to participate in the Lenz Field Play the Turf tournament. The 10U team went 3-1 over the weekend, dropping a heartbreaker in the semi finals 2-1. Very good job ladies!! The 12U team started the weekend with a loss to the Southern Illinois Roughnecks as time ran out just as they were mounting a comeback in a 10-8 loss. The Elite bounced back defeating the Black Widows 14-3. To round out pool play, the 12U team defeated the Revelation Outlaws 19-3. A semi-final rematch with the Black Widows was up next,. The stripes pulled out a 5-3 win, scoring 4 times in their final at bat. This led to a chance to avenge the earlier loss to the Roughnecks. The 7 inning affair saw the Elite never trail in a 16-15 championship victory.
The Mattoon Cobras defeated the CI Diamonds to win the championship of the 12U Spring Fling. The Elite went 2-1 on the day.
Follow along on the tournament page for continuous updated brackets throughout the day.
Kendyl Ring picked up the win in game 1, in relief of a stellar pitching performance by Kyleigh Block. Carissa Denny was solid behind the plate for the stripes. Addy Fisher played an errorless third base. Brooke Niemann lined a bases loaded double with 2 outs in the last inning scoring 2 for the 10-9 win. Game 2 saw Niemann pick up the win in relief of Ragin Baker and Kerri Pierce. Baker showed tremendous fight battling through some air quality issues in Sadorus. Kendal Morgan had a big triple to left, that would have cleared the fence at VGHS. Katelyn Young almost split second base in half with a hot shot up the middle. Marissa Russo swung a solid bat to keep the Elite going strong. Niemann struck out the final Rebel batter on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded for the 8-7 come from behind win.
The Elite 12U will host their annual Spring Fling tournament on Saturday, April 11th. Please follow the tournaments link for bracket information.
Use the link below to reserve your room BY MARCH 27TH. I reserved my room from July 19 through July 26. There is a 3-night minimum stay which will be no problem since we usually go over on Sunday (totally optional though) to do something fun as a team if you choose to do so (still looking for water park or something like that) and then Monday is the opening day parade, and games start on Tuesday. So no matter what, we will need at least 3 days. I hope we need the room through the 26th, but if we don’t we can cancel days after the 3rd night.
I know the total price may be a bit of sticker shock, but if we don’t need all the days, we can cancel after the 3rd night and this does include a complimentary buffet breakfast (which helps save on that) and is only 7 miles from the complex.
