Dissolution

This page holds documents pertaining to the possible dissolution/consolidation of the Village. The first four documents were prepared and presented by Trustee Barbara Lawrence, in a guided discussion led on Monday, August 14, 2017. As always, the printed documents cannot take the place of hearing the presentation and discussion. All other trustees, the Mayor, and two past mayors also participated and expressed their appreciation for the information provided and the effort Trustee Lawrence evidenced to put the presentation together.

On 11 December 2017, the Village of Van Etten voted to begin the process of dissolution [disincorporation]. The final vote tally on the resolution referendum was 179 ballots cast, 103 yes [for dissolution] and 76 no [against dissolution].

From the CGR study report: "If the decision is to dissolve, the Village Board will need to create a dissolution plan that will describe the actions that will be undertaken to dissolve the village and provide service to the residents after dissolution. Village residents will have an opportunity to engage in the development of the dissolution plan. The plan must be adopted by the Village Board within 180 days of the dissolution vote. After it is adopted, the plan is presented to the public and is subject to both revision and a referendum."
