Manchester Junior League
Manchester Junior League
This is our sixth season in the Greater Manchester Junior League. The older team is made up of Years 9,10 & 11 whilst the younger team is for Years 8 and under - as in the previous two years, we have entered two younger teams and two older teams. Due to court booking issues, this year's competition is spread over three, not four, days.
Match report - Day 3 - 18th March
Well, what a fantastic day! Our Older A team came runners-up - our best ever result - and our Younger A team went one better by winning the competition, again our best ever result.
This is a truly fantastic achievement and reflects all the hard work put in by the players and coaches.
Our Younger A team beat Sale and Bury 5-0, Oldham 4-1 and our B team 5-0, Colne 4-1.
Our Younger B team beat Bury 4-1 and lost to our A Team 0-5 and came 4th out of 6 teams, an excellent performance.
Our Older A team beat Forrest A 4-1, Rochdale A 5-0 but then lost to the clear winners, Fords, 0-5 despite a few close games.
Our Older B team lost 2-3 to Whitworth and beat Oldham 4-1 to come 2nd in Division 3.

Match report - Day 2 - 25th February
Our Older A team had an amazing day, winning all matches in the 1st Division 5-0. They beat Forrest A, Rochdale A and Sale.
Despite thinking otherwise, our Older B team were in Division 3. With 2 players playing up in the first team, this slightly weaker team lost 0-5 to Oldham A then beat Rochdale B 3-2 before losing 0-5 to Colne. Again, we didn't come bottom so shouldn't get relegated but who knows?!
Our Younger A team had a storming day, beating Bury 5-0, our B team 5-0, Colne 4-1 and Forrest 4-1. Despite this, we appear to be in 3rd place.
Our Younger B team continued to find it tough and lost 0-5 our A team and 1-4 to Forrest, rallied to beat Sale 4-1 before losing to Oldham 1-4; sitting in 5th place.

Match report - Day 1 - 14th January
Our Older A team stayed in the 1st Division and did themselves proud. They lost to Whitworth and Rochdale A 2-3 but beat Forest A 3-2 and a resounding 5-0 win over Sale put us joint top of the division. A good start but when the post-Christmas rustiness is behind us, we could do even better.
Our Older B team were in the 2nd Division. They started well with a 4-1 win over Rochdale B but struggled in the following matches, losing 0-5 to Bryn and Oldham A then 1-4 to Markland Hill. We didn't finish bottom so should remain in Division 2.
Due to there being fewer entries, the younger teams were placed in one pool.
Our Younger A team lost to Colne 2-3 then beat Forrest 3-2 and Sale 5-0 but then lost 2-3 to Oldham, finishing 2nd.
Our Younger B team naturally found it tough in the same division and lost 0-5 to Forrest, 2-3 to Sale, 0-5 to Oldham, 2-3 to Bury and 0-5 to Colne
Younger B team Older B Team Younger A Team
This is our fifth season in the Greater Manchester Junior League. The older team is made up of Years 9,10 & 11 whilst the younger team is for Years 8 and under - as last year, we have entered two younger teams and two older teams.
Match report - Day 4 - 19th March - Finals Day
It was a shame that our #1 player was not available as this made the difference in our first two close-fought matches losing 1-4 to Rochdale and to newly-promoted Fords. We bounced back to beat Forest 5-0 and to claim 3rd spot overall - out of 16 teams, an impressive performance.
Our Older B were now in division 3 and, after a sleepy start, found the going a little easier. We were unlucky to face Bryn as our first match and lost 2-3 in a very narrow points defeat. However, class showed as we beat forest and Bury 4-1; 10th overall.
Our Younger teams suffered from having several players missing. The A team drafted in replacements and were so close to winning the 2nd division. We beat Bury 4-1 then Markland Hill 3-2 before facing Rochdale in a showdown for top spot. Unfortunately, we couldn't win the final two doubles games to secure victory and went down 2-3; 6th overall.
The Younger B team again only had three players so, again, it was a case of keeping spirits up and using the experience for the many years to come.

Match report - Day 3 - 19th February
Our Older A team is now a permanent fixture in the 1st Division. Even with two B team players playing up, they won two of three matches and only lost the other narrowly. They beat Forest A 3-2 and Rochdale B 5-0 and lost to Rochdale A 2-3 [again - our nemesis].
Our Older B suffered from having two players 'pinched' by the A team. They played very well but found some matches tough; they lost to Fords 1-4, to Sale 2-3 and to Whitworth 1-4. Relegated to Division 3 in order to re-group.
Our Younger A team also suffered from having two regulars missing. The re-vamped team played their hearts out but lost all matches; against Oldham and Rochdale A it was 0-5 and against Markland Hill A and Forrest is was 1-4, Saran winning a game in each match 15-14 :-)
Our Younger B suffered also from having two players 'pinched' by the A team. A very young team of just three players with several years left in this age group found it tough but gained valuable experience for the future.

Match report - Day 2 - 15th January
Our Older A team stayed in the 1st Division and won two of their three games again. They beat Forest A and our B team 4-1 and again narrowly lost to Rochdale A 3-2.
Our Older B team were promoted to the 1st Division an found it a little tough. They lost 0-5 to Rochdale A and Forest A but there were great cheers when they took one game off the A team in losing 1-4.
Our Younger A team had three very close games, beating Oldham 3-2 the losing to Rochdale A, Rochdale B and Markland Hill A 2-3 in each game - tough luck.
Our Younger B team had mixed fortunes, winning for the first time as this new squad. They lost to Markland Hill B 2-3 and Forrest 0-5 then beat Sale 3-2 finishing with a 0-5 defeat to Bury.
Match report - Day 1 - 13th November
Our Older A team stayed in the 1st Division and did themselves proud. They beat Sale and Forest A 5-0 and narrowly lost to Rochdale A 3-2 which is a great start.
Our Older B team were in the 2nd Division. They beat Bury A and Oldham 5-0 and won the deciding match against Rochdale B 3-2 to gain promotion to the 1st Division.
Our Younger A team stayed in the first Division but found it tough going against Rochdale B who beat them 0-5. However, this young team managed to beat Sale 4-1 to retain their place in the top flight.
Our Younger B team was extremely young and inexperienced, having no-one who had played in this league before. They lost all three matches but two of these were 2-3 and many good performances were seen; plenty to suggest that in the future, and with more experience, these players will do well.
Younger A & B teams Older A Team Older B Team
This is our fourth season in the Greater Manchester Junior League. The Older team is made up of Years 9,10 & 11 whilst the Younger team is for Years 8 and under - this year we have entered two Younger teams and, for the first time, two Older teams.
Match report - Day 4 - Finals Day - 20th March
Unfortunately. the Older A team lost their 3 matches today. There were some great performances and close results (a couple of 14-15 defeats); lost 1-4 to Forrest A but only 2-3 to winners Rochdale A and 2-3 to Sale. This is the first team we've been in the top division and to remain in it all season is a great tribute to the players. Not one player in Y11 this year so we can re-group and come back stronger next year.
The Older B team did, indeed, get promoted [see comments below]. We beat Bury 3-2 then lost to Rochdale B [just relegated from Division 1] 0-5 and Oldham 2-3.
Older A Team Older B Team
Since reaching to 1st Division, our Younger A team had come top on each day. Day 4 started well with wins over Whitworth [3-2], Oldham [5-0] and Rochdale B [4-1]. Then came the crunch match against Sale - unfortunately, for the first time this season. we lost [1-4]. However, coming Runners-up in the whole of Greater Manchester is a tremendous performance and by far our best ever result.
The Younger B team remained in the 2nd Division but, with a few absences, we were a little weaker than on previous days and we lost the three matches - Bryn [1-4], Rochdale A [0-5], Markland Hill [2-3] and Forrest A [0-5]. A couple of young players made their début so valuable experience gained for future seasons.

Match report - Day 3 - 21st February
The Older A team won their opening match 5-0 (Rochdale B), lost a close tussle with Forrest A (2-3) then lost 0-5 to the very strong Rochdale A. This was enough to maintain our Division 1 status.
Despite thoughts of promotion after Day 2, the Older B Team remained in Division 3. We lost to Whitworth (1-4), beat Forrest B (4-1) and then beat St Mary's A (3-2). In a division of topsy-turvey results, two team ended up with 8 points and two with 7 - extremely close...with us on top! Perhaps this time we will be promoted.
The Younger A team once again won all their matches and topped the 1st division again. They beat Whitworth (4-1), Oldham (5-0), Forrest A (5-0) and Sale (3-2) - very impressive!
The Younger B team had mixed fortunes; they beat Bryn (3-2), lost to Rochdale A (1-4), beat St Mary's (3-2) then lost to Rochdale B (0-5)
Match report - Day 2 - 17th January
Older A team lost their 1st two matches 4-1 (Rochdale A) and 3-2 (Forrest A) but then won their next two matches 4-1 (Sale) and 3-2 (Rochdale B). An excellent performance having been newly promoted to Division 1.
Due to a re-configuration, the Older B team ended up in Division 3. They won all their games! 4-1 (St Mary's), 3-2 (Markland Hill), 3-2 (Bury), 3-2 (Whitworth) - plenty of close matches and should be promoted for next time.
Younger A team won all their matches last time, were promoted to Division 1 and promptly won all their matches again to be top of Division 1- impressive! 5-0 (Forrest A), 4-1 (Whitworth), 5-0 (Rochdale A), 3-2 (Sale).
Younger B team were also promoted and found Division 2 a little harder. Losses against Bryn (3-2) and 4-1 (Oldham) were balanced out by strong wins 5-0 (Bury) and 5-0 (St Mary's) to keep them in Division 2.
Match report - Day 1 - 22nd November
Older A team won their matches 4-1 (Sale) and 5-0 (Oldham). They won division 2 and were promoted to division 1 for Day 2.
Older B team won their 1st match 3-2 (St. Mary's) but then lost 4-1 (Markland Hill) and 3-2 (Whitworth) so will remain in division 4. This is the first time that we have entered an Older B team so a great change for the less experienced players.
Younger A team won all their matches 4-1 (Rochdale B, Forrest A and Bryn). They won division 2 and were promoted to division 1 for Day 2.
Younger B team won all their matches; 3-2 (Oldham), 4-1 (Markland Hill), 3-2 (Forrest B), 3-2 (BLGC). Despite this, we came 2nd in the division - due to winning few games that Oldham. However, it looks like we are also promoted into Division 2 - a great performance from the B team.
This is our third season in the Greater Manchester Junior League. The older team is made up of Years 9,10 & 11 whilst the younger team is for Years 8 and under - this year we have entered two younger teams. All matches take place at Belle Vue Leisure Centre in Longsight. 9:30 start for both teams.
Match report 29th March
Again, a couple of key players were missing and we could only field 2 players in the younger B team. The younger A team missed out on winning division 2 by the narrowest of margins losing the last two games of the final match 15-14 and, therefore, losing the match 3-2; previously they had won 3-2 in their other two matches.
The older team won 4-1 and 3-2 but lost 4-1 to Oldham and came 2nd in division 3.
Match report 22nd February
We had quite a few of our more experienced players missing today and, unfortunately, this had an impact on our results. Despite battling performances and a few games won, we did not win any matches. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves which is the main thing. We will re-group for Day 4, Finals Day.
Match report 18th January
Our older team's first match was against Bryn. All games were close but we held our nerve and won 4-1. We then played Levenshulme who had been relegated from division 1; they were too strong for us and we lost 5-0. We finished off as we started by beating Bury 4-1.
Our younger teams were missing a few of our stronger players which meant that B team players moved up to the A team and reserves stepped into the B team. Despite this, the A team fought valiantly to stay in the first division. We beat Levenshulme 4-1 (after an adjustment was made for them fielding older players!), lost 5-0 to Rochdale then beat St Mary's 3-2.
Despite some good performances, the B team lost their three matches 3-0 and will move down to division 3 in February.
Match report 23rd November
Our older team finished in the second division last season, so that is where we started this season. We had three very close matches, losing to Bryn 3-2, beating Sale 4-1 then losing to Lowton 3-2 - we remain in division 2 for the next round of matches.
This year, we entered two younger teams. The A team were in division 1 and played excellently to finish second. This was based upon two close wins against Rochdale 3 -2 and Sale 3-2 but we were no match for Levenshulme who beat all teams by at least 4 games to 1. The B team fought hard and bounced back from 4-1 defeat by Whitworth to beat Lowton 3-2 then just lose out to Bryn 3-2. Due to a team dropping out of division 2, it looks like our B team has been promoted from division 3 to division 2.
This is our second season in the Greater Manchester Junior League. The older team is made up of Years 9,10 & 11 whilst the younger team is for Years 8 and under. All matches take place at Belle Vue Leisure Centre in Longsight. Day 1 is on Sunday 25th November, 9:30 start for both teams. Day 2 is 19/1/14, Day 3 is 23/2/14, Day 3 is 16/3/14.
With our club growing in strength and depth, we entered a second Younger team in the league. With day 3 of the league clashing with the Liverpool Junior Tournament, this gave an opportunity for several players to make their debut. The B team did struggle a little but managed to win one game. Meanwhile, the A team did enough to consolidate their position in division. The Older team won 2 of their 3 matches and only missed out on promotion due to fewer games won in a three-way tie.
Our Younger team played excellently and gained promotion to division 2. Our older team consolidated its position in division 2.
Match report 25th November
Our older team was in the third of 4 divisions and soon set about proving that they were in too low a division. Although there were many close games, we won the first 2 matches 5-0 [Rossendale and Hawks]. We dropped our first games to Oldham and went into the final game even, 2 all. No fear, though, our doubles strength came through and we won the final game to take the match 3-2. Top of the league and division 2 beckoning.
Our younger team was in the second of 3 divisions. Despite some excellent individual performances, the opposition proved a little tough - there were two 5-0 defeats [Sale and Levenshulme] and two 3-2 defeats [Bury and Rossendale]. Next round we should be in division three where the games should be a little easier.
For the first time, we plan to enter teams into the Greater Manchester Junior League. The older team is made up of Years 9,10 & 11 whilst the younger team is for Years 8 and under. All matches take place at Belle Vue Leisure Centre in Longsight. Day 1 is on Sunday 25th November, 9:30 start for both teams.

Match report 24th march
The divisions were re-organised again for the older team and this time we ended up in division 4. This was probably just as well as we had a bit of a weaker team but the 4 boys did us proud by winning the first game 3-2 and then narrowly losing the second game 2-3.
As anticipated, the younger team stayed in division 2. This time we faired even better, winning 2 of the 3 matches. Both wins were a close 3-2, with several matches being won by just the odd point or 2.
All round, the teams have played excellently and have been great ambassadors for the club. This was our first year in this competition which we have found to be very well organised. Looking forward to developing the players over the coming months to be an even stronger outfit next season.
Match report 17th February
A tough day today with the older team being a man down from the off. This meant that winning a match was going to be difficult and so it proved as we lost all 4 matches. Due to a re-organisation from 4 divisions to 3 and us ending up in the 2nd division, we had to play Markland Hill yet again!!
The younger team had lots of close games and did themselves proud in the 2nd division. The promotion meant that we would get more challenging games but the one match that we did win should be enough to keep us up.
Match report 27th January
Congratulations to both teams who again played excellently.
On the back of a good performance in November, the older team were promoted to the 3rd division. First match was against Markland Hill, now becoming our nemesis, who again beat us 5-0. However, we beat the other 2 teams 4-1 and 5-0 to consolidate our position in the 3rd division - good effort.
The younger team had many close games with the outcome often being decided on the last point. Although a couple of matches were aided by the opposition not having a full team, it was a great effort to WIN ALL OUR MATCHES [4-1; 3-2; 3-2; 3-2] which should mean promotion to the 2nd division.
Match report 25th November
Congratulations to both teams who played excellently today. As a new club to this competition, we were placed in the 4th division for noth age-groups.
The older team won their first three matches 4-1 but then came against a very strong team from Markland Hill who beat us 5-0. We will probably be placed 2nd in the league which is an excellent start.
The younger team won one of their three matches; they lost won other by a close margin but, like the older team, came up against a very strong team for their last match. However, this was an excellent first set of results for a team comprised of players who had not played in this sort of competition before.
Here are a few pictures of the teams (apologies that they are not in focus!)
