FAQ

GLASS

HOW DO I CLEAN GLASS?
Spray a small amount of glass cleaner (ammonia-free) on a microfiber cloth or a cotton rag and wipe onto the glass in a circular motion. Do not spray directly on the glass as to prevent over spray and drips which can leak into the edge of the art and cause damage.

WHEN SHOULD UV PROTECTION GLASS BE USED?
Always on valuable, sentimental, limited edition, and one of a kind artwork. UV light rays come from both indoor and outdoor sources making almost all artwork vulnerable to damaging effects.

WHY SHOULD I USE UV PROTECTION?
Effects from indoor and outdoor UV light causes aging and fading and is irreversible. Paper can become brittle, photos may appear yellow or ghostly,

WHY IS MUSEUM GLASS BETTER THAN NON-GLARE?
Museum glass has 99% UV protection from every angle. Non-glare is only 45% (like regular glass), double the cost of regular glass, and art will fade. Non-glare is etched on one side and dulls the image. Museum glass is built with a double anti-reflective clear coating plus a permanently baked UV absorbing coating. This means that almost all UV rays are absorbed and diffused, allowing less than 1% of UV rays to transmit through the glass, and equally less than 1% light reflection. Nothing else compares to this almost invisible glazing!

MATS

SHOULD I USE A MAT?
Mats give prominence to the art and they provide visual relief around the art. This layer helps keep the glass from touching the art too, protecting the finish. You can draw attention to the art, highlight, or intensify certain details in the art by accenting colors. Mats allow you to fit irregular art shapes into a larger standard frame, or to hide dents or broken corners on the art. You can place more than one picture in a frame with multiple mat openings. Fabric mats can add richness to the frame design. You can make a piece of art fill up a space by making it larger, creating a focal point in a room. To highlight or intensify certain details in the art. There are many reasons to use a mat, or two, or three.

HOW DO I KEEP THE GLASS OFF THE ART IF I DON'T WANT TO USE A MAT?
Spacers can be used under the glass, under the rabbet (recess on the back inside edge of the moulding).
