I am an experienced, certified birth doula serving women in Ottawa and surrounding areas. I provide a calm presence, emotional and physical comfort, and information and resources for expectant parents. Whether you plan to give birth at home or in hospital, I will support you on your journey to parenthood.
As a childbirth educator, I also offer private prenatal courses in the comfort of your own home. These are ideal for couples and individuals for whom taking a class is not convenient or appropriate, and also for those wanting an individualized refresher course for a second or third baby.
To me, attending a birth is a privilege and a joy. My approach is to respect and support your informed choices; I bring no personal agenda to your birth. I believe you are in charge of your body, your baby and your birth, and you should be treated with warmth, flexibility, openness and professionalism.
I have been a doula since 2008, when I began as a volunteer Birth Companion with Mothercraft Ottawa. Since then I have been trained and certified by both Mothercraft Ottawa and DONA International. I am also a member of the Association of Ontario Doulas and of Ottawa Valley Doulas, and subscribe to their standards of practice and code of ethics. I have four wonderful children of my own, two born in hospital, and two born at home, and have ten years of breastfeeding experience.
I have been a childbirth educator since 2010.
In 2011-2012, I completed more than 60 hours of apprenticeship with a lactation consultant in a clinical setting to gain wider-ranging, hands-on experience with breastfeeding support. I provide breastfeeding education and am happy to help my clients with most of their breastfeeding questions, referring major problems to a lactation consultant.
