    MAGGIE'S KIDS CAMP- summer opportunity

    Months/Days/Hours Needed:

    Monday, July 14 - Friday, July 18, 2014
    8:30 - 3:30 each day

    Description:

Miss Maggie (Maggie D. Harris) operates Community Lutheran Ministry on Joseph Avenue in the city of Rochester.  Her year-round ministry is solely focused on the children of the 14621 zipcode, currently one of the most impoverished and crime-ridden areas of our city.  Every summer Miss Maggie runs a state accredited six-week camp for up to 150 children ages 3 to 17. For more information about Miss Maggie’s ministry, you can visit http://communitylutheranministry.org/about-us/

For the last six years, local Victor and Farmington churches have come together to sponsor the campers in our community for a full week, and have created a program that is guided by Christian values and teachings.

This year the Victor camp is being held July 14 – 18.  The children will be provided with two healthy snacks and a hot meal everyday.  On Monday and Friday, the children start the day at Willowbrook Christian Church on High Street.  Monday afternoon will be spent at Kreag Road Park in Perinton.  Tuesday and Wednesday will be spent all day at Onanda Park in Canandaigua, and Thursday will be at the Geneva Spray Park.  Last year over 20 Victor students worked at the camp.

    2014 Participating Churches include:

    Farmington United Methodist Church
    St. Patrick’s Catholic Church
    First Presbyterian Church of Victor
    Whitestone Christian Church
    Willowbrook Christian Church
    St. John’s Lutheran Church

Volunteers are needed to be matched up to a small group of children, and engage in the pre-planned activities alongside them.  Volunteers are encouraged to share their love of the Lord with the children, and help them to feel loved and valued.

    July/Athletics/Children/Education/Religious

Victor students have been great supporters of this camp in previous years.  This is a great opportunity for groups of students (teams, clubs) to get in community service hours over the summer.

Transportation can be arranged for volunteers to the different sites during the week.

Volunteers should be 12+ unless they are working alongside a parent.
