  • Group members, with Principal Mendoza, discussed Focus Questions above. Counselor Talleda discussed efforts VHS is taking in response to WASC Focus Question #5.
  • Mr. Silberman expressed concern that the WASC report section might have been revised and that group members should be aware of revisions. Accordingly, Section B (p. 181-198) has been excerpted and linked to this page so that members may quickly review the most current version.
  • Focus questions were also scanned and hosted on Skydrive so that members may review these on their own as needed. (Link above)

Meeting 12.06.2011

These links are editable web documents in Skydrive. A Skydrive account is required to edit files, and can be created quickly on the spot. Google documents was not chosen for this as parts of the Google GUI are blocked by Websense.

A Skydrive account is not required to simply view the files.

B1A - Mr. Talley, Ms. Schefke, Ms. Woodruff, Mr. Moore, Ms. Farrell
B1B - Mr. Chow, Mr. Gebremicael, Ms. Gill

B2A - Ms. Kruhen, Ms. Bahremand
B2B - Mr. McKeon, Mr. Silberman, Mr. Kitajima

B3-All - Mr. Kovan, Ms. Herrero, Ms. Nguyen

Meeting notes: Members participated fully to produce drafts of responses to all B prompts. Responses were limited by the data provided - often, members understood what data would be required to adequately answer a prompt but were unable to draw upon anything but personal anecdotal data to do so.

Several prompts remain incomplete, but the framework has been set and it is highly likely that at the next meeting all prompts will be completed. That said, the quality of responses will still be limited by the availability of data - for example, the rate of CAHSEE passage in 2010 as opposed to 2009.

MyData was suggested as a resource. However, lack of expertise with that software, as well as that software's design limitations, made its inclusion at this meeting ineffective.

Note: I've added all responses emailed to me to the cloud documents. All member responses are in blue or green. Thank you to all members for embarking upon this arrangement with alacrity. Special note should be made that the majority of the computers used in Room40 were not Windows machines - rather, they were Linux, an operating system that most members had hitherto never had any experience with. And yet, we persevered.

Meeting 11.15.2011

posted Nov 15, 2011, 2:59 PM by Kevin Chow   [ updated Nov 15, 2011, 4:29 PM ]

On 11.15.2011, members of WASC Team B1-B2 met in RM 136 and then RM 40 to discuss the various prompts and formulate a plan for designing a response framework.

It was discovered that several pieces of previously recorded framework were missing; with only half an hour remaining, the group decided to move to RM 40 and collaborate as a whole group rather than as multiple small groups in an attempt to both assess the situation and reformulate a response.

This was the current status of the documents. As the meeting ended, group members felt more positive about the task ahead; members volunteered their contact information and asked to have access to this web page so they could collaborate further.

These are the materials from our meeting.
