Split Pea Soup

1 cup dry split peas

4 cups water

2 bay leaves

Bring to boil, cover, and simmer for 45 - 60 minutes.  Stir often.  When peas get soft, discard bay leaves.

Sauté in vegetable broth:

1 small onion

3 gloves of garlic

Add:

1 medium carrot

1 cup mushroom

Sauté for additional 5 minutes.  Add sautéd vegetables to split peas and simmer 15 minutes.

Add:

 2 tablespoon tamari

Pepper
