Thanks for stopping by. The virtual class trips are organized on the left by community type (urban, suburban, and rural.) Fill out this form if your classroom would like to add their own community as a field trip.
You'll also find a lessons, materials, and a unit plan for exploring the different types of communities below. Feel free to select lessons that work for you or simply take advantage of the resources. Many of the lessons are differentiated and all include the required materials (except for the texts listed below.)
Lesson Plans Print or download the complete unit here. This download includes reproducibles but does not include video and SMART Notebook files which can only be found on the lesson pages below. Performance Tasks Build a Field Trip Students work together to create a digital field trip of their own community. Finished field trips will be added to this site. Optionally, a question form can be added to will allow other classes from around the world to ask your class questions. All questions go through the classroom teacher. Map Builder Students work together to create a community with urban, rural, and suburban neighborhoods. Each child is tasked with building a unique neighborhood on an existing environment. Children then write about their creation. At the end of the task, the neighborhoods can printed and connected to create a bulletin board that will make the class proud. | Book Resources: Optional Books |
