Chuck Missler was born and raised in Southern California. After graduating from the United States Naval Academy, he spent time in the United States Air Force completing flight training and became Branch Chief of the Department of Guided Missiles. Following his military service, he moved into the private sector of business and technology, holding positions with several large companies including TRW (a large aerospace firm), Ford Motor Company, and Automatic Data Processing. He has also served as a senior analyst with a non-profit think tank where he conducted projects for the intelligence community and the Department of Defense. During this time he completed a Master's degree at the University of California Los Angeles in engineering. He was for several years the chairman, the chief executive, and the largest shareholder of Western Digital.
