Camp Traill

Camp Traill is found at 122 Big Waters Road Charleston Lake, Athens. It is located 15 km north west of Brockville.

Terrain -small lakefront access, hardwood forest, open meadow areas

  • 10 established patrol-size sites (6+ persons); each site has fire pit and a picnic table – 6 remote camp sites that can easily be hiked in to (10 to 30 minutes hike) 
  • Shelters – there is a cabin, for shelter only, on White hiking trail as well as Cummerford Hall at Council Rock 
  • Toilet Facilities - 5 kybos 
  • Parking for 20 cars/truck or trailers in parking area 
  • Water, 2 wells - No potable water available, bring your own 
  • Firewood - deadfall for camping sites. Wood stoves in Cummerford Hall have firewood supplied 
  • Council Fire area - seating for 75 
  • Manhard Chapel – seating for 75 
  • Cummerford Hall is a 60’ X 90’ cement block structure with
    • Wheelchair Access
    • heated by 2 wood stoves with ample floor space
    • 5 picnic tables
    • 3 large craft/prep tables
    • 15 murphy beds
    • kitchen and change room
    • propane is supplied for 2 cooking stoves
  • The water from the wells is NOT potable. Bring what you need, or be prepared to filter water as needed
There is cell phone reception in some areas of the camp.

For emergencies, the closest hospital is in Brockville at 75 Charles Street.

Camp Fee 

Fee is $10.00 per youth per weekend. A Generator is available for rent $50 for the weekend (this will operate the electric lights in the hall)

  • Hiking/Orienteering; 4 established trails shortest 20 minutes, longest 45 minutes (one way) 
  • Water Activities – at Onion Bay, on Charleston Lake; swimming and canoe tripping 
  • Winter Camping - ideal for novice to expert 
  • Wide Area Games - 2 open fields and great woods 
  • Program Themes – wildflowers and wild life, pond study (in Beaver Pond) and forestry (wide variety of native trees and shrubs) 
  • Nearby Opportunities – museums in Athens and Brockville

Directions; From Brockville, take County Rd 29 north to Forthton, turn left on County Rd 42, in Athens at flashing yellow light turn left on County Rd 40, follow main road to the right, at the + intersection. Turn left on Beales Mills Road. Watch for large blue signs ‘Scouts Canada Camp Traill’. Take left fork at Y, take right fork at next Y, follow cottage road, no other turns. Camp is on the left, shortly after pavement turns to gravel.
