Route description (include information about stops or overnights,
crossing lengths, fetch distances in channels of interest, etc.):
Put-in time about 0900. Crossing of Rosario Strait will be announced on VHF channel 5A. 7 nm crossing Green Point to Point Colville, fetch 20 nm S, 5 nm W, 10 nm N. Tide rip E of Bird Rocks will be avoided by going 1 nm farther south if S or SW wind 10 knots or more, N wind greater than 10 knots.
Alongshore south Lopez Is., fetch to 20 nm S, 40 nm W. Stops planned or exit possible Pt. Colville, south bays Lopez Is., Iceberg Pt.. Reach Iceberg Pt. about 1230.
Enter Cattle Pass about 1430-1500, current 2.5-3 knots. Tide rips with clapotis, eddylines with small whirlpools. Typically roughest in W or S winds, N winds produce more extensive area of chop, worst along eddylines. Will tend toward middle of channel, avoiding roughest areas as conditions dictate.
Wheel boats on 1850 ferry for return.
Alternate route (due to bad weather): If conditions immediately become difficult, could divert to Burrows Bay. Possible emergency takeouts along E and S sides of Lopez.
