Roosevelt Rumble 2016

ROOSEVELT RUMBLE MARCH 19 AND 20, 2016

It was a crisp early spring morning just west of Roosevelt, Utah, and the annual Roosevelt Rumble was scheduled to get underway. Many of the usual suspects, and a handful of new faces could be seen gathered around the trailers waiting for things to get going. Nothing is easy in Utah NSTRA these days there are many champions to run against and placements can be tough to come by.

The fields where set and in a little different fashion. Everyone seemed excited to give the double C shaped fields a try. The dogs and handlers stepped to the line for the first braces. The judges said “turn them loose,” and with a cloud of dust we were Rumbling.

As Saturday’s “A” field started to shake out Bret Ure’s dog Cash proved to have the best run to win the field, and end a dry streak while Angie Wonnacott’s NSTRA CH Sunnie would take first. New comer to the game, Ryan Taylor proved that his dog Aldor would be a force to contend with. Aldor got his first placement, and we are looking forward to great things from this pair! First time placement!

In Saturdays “B” field Bret Wonnacott’s 2X NSTRA CH Tic would score with a 4/4 in the first run of the day and that would stand until the great just now 2X NSTRA CH Cheeto would step to the line with Handler Tracy Neilson. Cheeto would gobble up ground and slam birds for 30 minutes putting 5 on the card to win the field. The 3 points from the win were enough to earn her that second CH. We have watched Cheeto since she was a puppy and have seen her do some incredible things including a placement in a national trial as well as terrorized the fields of our region for years. In the Utah region 2X CH’s are really hard to come by. It takes consistency and greatness to achieve. Congratulations to Tracy, Darcy and Cheeto on the accomplishment. We are all very proud! Lance Neilson would finish 3rd in “B field to finalize the placements.

Sunday would start in similar fashion.

In “A” Field Angie Wonnacott’s NSTRA CH Sunnie would have a good run that would only be bested by Rich Lowe and Sam. Sam is a tall dog and if he keeps winning we are going to have to buy Rich a stool so he can see over Mr Sam. Great run Rich! The lovely and talented Maureen Goodrich would handle her dog Seven to third place.

In “B” field Brett Ure would handle his dog Cash to a 5/5 run that would hold for first. Cash and Brett recently became TV stars on KSL Outdoors, but it is easy to see it didn’t go to Cash’s head. He and Brett had the trial weekend of their lives getting 6 points from two wins. I have watched Brett and Cash work very hard for a long time, and it is wonderful to see the payoff in Brett’s smile. Congratulations on a fantastic weekend! WOW! What else can you say. Cade Allen handled Bo to a second place in his second placement of the year. Cade and Bo have certainly put in their time over the past year. It was great to see their first placement in December and even better to know how much that 1st place meant to Cade. It is just the beginning Cade. There are great things to come! Rhet Collins, now a regular on the podium would finish off the placements with his dog Maggie getting third.

What a great trial! We would like to thank the whole Uinta Basin Crew, but most of all Lance Neilson for chairing a fun trial. Excellent job Lance!

I know everyone is working hard on their assignments for Best of the West, and we are looking forward to all of our friends from other regions spending some time with us. The trial is full, and it looks like it could be the best B.O.W ever!

On a more personal note, I owe everyone an apology. I’m afraid the December trial slipped my mind and I forgot to update the winners and write a story on the December trial for the web site. I just didn’t have time right after the trial, then I got busy and it just slipped my mind. It takes me two to four hours to get everything written edited and posted including photographs, but I will do better going forward. I am sorry for missing that one. I do my best but this one got by me.
