The Last Chance Trial was the last of the weekend trials for the 2013-2014 trial season. It has been a good season. Saturday's Braces were as strong as ever and Art Trujillo's dog Asia got a win in “A” Field pushing her ever so close to the 2X CH mark. I think she only needs 2 more. Bret Wonnacotts Tic scored a 2nd place and the always strong R2 owned by Lance Neilson came in third. It was good to See Kip Bottomley's shaky holding fourth at the end of the day in A field.

In B field Jason Wilde was back out with a nice young dog named “Rue” He dunked her in the water and ran her strong in tough conditions for the win. In front of Angie Wonnacott's Sunnie, and Gabby Owned by Dave Wayment filled in the top three.

On Sunday the finds were rare in the middle braces in both fields but B field was really tough. Doc Owned by Chad Jones smashed the competition with a nice 5/5 run. Tracy Neilsons Cheeto scored another point with a nice second place run and Bret Wonnacott's Tic found himself in third.

In “A” Field Bret Wonnacotts Tic got the win Followed by two dogs handle by Dan Felter, Raz in second and Billie in Third.

That point was Raz's 18th career point and put that coveted CH in front of his name. Raz is owned by Cory Christensen and has had a really nice NSTRA career including a regional elimination championship in 2012. On behalf of the Utah region we would like to congratulate Cory Christensen, Handler Dan Felter, and especially Raz for achieving this very difficult accomplishment, and best wishes going forward. We are very happy for the three of you, and it is great to be able to add Raz to the champion listing on the site.

With the trial season all but wrapped up it is nice to look back and be able to say that we didn’t have to cancel any trials this year and had some really competitive dogs. As I look back at the season the thing that stands out is how many dogs had multiple placements and wins. That made the high point race really something this year. As it stands Tracy Neilson's dog Cheeto has had a really great year setting the mark at 14 points only to be equaled By last years high point dog, Bret Wonnacott's Tic who also gained 14. Angie Wonnacott's Sunnie with ten, Tom Kosmak's Aggie, and Shane Neilsons Ben each with nine, and R2 owned by Lance Neilson with eight points were the top dogs. You don’t have to look very long to see that the Neilson boys came to play this year. These guys are certainly a big part of the heart of our region and we are lucky to have them. We had so many first time placements and wins to celebrate, and it seemed like every dog improved over the course of the season.

We would like to congratulate the top dogs as well as everyone in the region for working to improving the performance of your dogs. The effort showed on trial day for sure. We would also like to thank you for your friendship, hospitality, warmth, and good nature. That is what makes our region so special, and keeps us all coming back. Job well done everyone!

In other business ...We will be demonstrating with some other dog clubs at the Utah DWR Outdoor Adventure Days. Click on this link for details on the event. If you want to come out and help shoot an email to the club account or call me. ( Bret 8016633877)
