2022 "Ground Hog" Trial Results

GROUNDHOG TRIAL, FEB 19-20, 2022

It was a beautiful crisp early morning on Saturday Feb. 19th, 2022 as we all made our way up to dirt road to our familiar trial grounds at Pole Canyon in Cedar Fort, UT. We were holding our annual Ground Hog Trial. Anticipation grew as handlers and dogs were ready to get underway. The birds were planted, the handlers were called to the line, and away we went as the trial officially started. We have so many new dogs and handlers in our region, it is exciting to see these new faces become so excited to participate.

SATURDAY A FIELD

Field A would be judge by a couple of our seasoned veterans in Lance Neilson and Troy Anderson, thank you for your time. In our last brace of the day we had Diane Peterson and her 1X NSTRA Champion dog Kid have a great run where they were able to put 3 birds on the card for a final score of 676, this would prove good enough for 3rd place. In brace 8 on the day we would have Braydon Whiteley handling Sox and they would have a run of 4/3 that would give them a score of 707 which would hold on for 2nd place. The run of the day would take place in brace 10. Braydon Whiteley would again have another amazing run with Rip where they would go 5/4 and also have a back to secure the win with a score of 934.5 and take home 1st place. Congrats on a heck of a day.

SATURDAY B FIELD

Field B would be judged by Rich Lowe and Barratt Gorshe, we appreciate your willingness to judge. In brace 4 we would have longtime veteran player Jim Wall and his shorthair Bullet have a great run where they found 3 birds, they were also able to get a back off of their bracemate. This would give them a final score of 725 that would allow them to take home 3rd place. In the last brace of the day we would yet again have Braydon Whiteley and Sox have a run of 5/5 for a final score of 746 that would be good enough to place them in 2nd. But the run of the day in B field came from Andy Johnson and his awesome dog Gus. They found 4 birds and had excellent bird work that would result in great scores. They ended the day with a score of 823 and put them at the top of the leaderboard and podium. Congrats on a great run!

SUNDAY A FIELD

A Field on Sunday would be judged by Angie Wonnacott and Maureen Goodrich, thank you! In brace 8 on the day we would have Braydon Whiteley and his dog Roan give us another great performance where they would go 4/3 for a score of 719, this would give them a 3rd place finish. Lynn Jeffers and his Brittany Oakley have been coming out for a few years and having fun. Lynn has worked hard and it is starting to show. In the 12th brace of the day he would prove how good they have become as a team. Oakley would go out and have 5 finds and 4 retrieves. They would come back to the gallery with a score of 781 to give them a 2nd place finish and their first ever placement. Way to go Lynn and Oakley!! The run of the day would come 2 braces later in brace 14 where Bruce Swanson and his dog Tiny would show us all that they are back in the game in a big way. They would find 5 birds as well as a back for a score of 943 to secure a 1st place. Awesome job and way to go, congrats from all of us!

SUNDAY B FIELD

The B field on Sunday was judged by Jim Wall and Kelly Irons, they did a great job so thank you so much for your time. In brace 3 we would have Braydon Whiteley and Sox be in contention again. They would find 3 birds and have a score of 614 which would hold on for 3rd place. This would be Braydon’s 5th placement on the weekend, way to go Braydon. In brace 5 on the day we would have Lynn Jeffers and his dog Oakley make another amazing run and go 4/3 and finish with 655 as their final score. With that score they would secure their second placement of the day and take home 2nd place. The run of the day would come from Jared Haddock and his little firecracker dog Boone. They would score 1211 points and secure another 1st place. This puts Boone just a few points away from earning his second championship. Way to go Jared and Boone.
