SPRING BREAK THRU, MAR 27-28, 2021

The grounds at Newton are some of the best. From the gorgeous scenery to the great cooking of the Newton Market, there’s not much more a person could ask for. Other than a little wind halfway through Sunday’s braces, the weather was great, the wild birds were plentiful and it was great to join together for another incredible weekend competing in the best region NSTRA has to offer! A balmy 20 degrees on Saturday, the sun just peering up over golden fields of wheat, faces new and old joined together to celebrate great dogs over a memorable two days!

SATURDAY A FIELD

Saturday’s A field would end up with Brett Ure and his gorgeous English Setter Cash taking 3rd with 3/3 and a back to score them a 700 even. Cash now needs just one point to become a member of an exclusive 2X CH club in our region! Way to go Cash and Brett! 2nd place with a score of–you guessed it–701, would be Spencer Johnson and his (I mean his wife’s) German Shorthair Scout. They would go an impressive 4/4 in some very tough conditions to secure a placement! Way to go Scout and Spencer! The run of the day would belong to none other than Rich Lowe and his bolt of lightning of an English Setter he calls Flash, he truly has lived up to his name. Winning the field with 4/4 and an 810.5. This is Flash’s first win and looks to be the first of many for this pair! Congratulations Rich and Flash!

SATURDAY B FIELD

Saturday’s B Field would have Ryan Taylor and Prince taking 3rd with a score of 897. This fine young Setter went 4/4 and a back to secure yet another placement. Prince is becoming quite a dog to run against and is always in contention for a placement! Great work Ryan and Prince! Barratt Gorshe and his Brittany Sherlock would go 5/5 for a score of 950 to earn a 2nd place, congratulations Barratt and Sherlock! 1st place was locked up by none other than Jared Haddock and Boone, 6/6 and an 1136 would be enough to secure the field earning his 25th point in the last year! Congratulations Jared and Boone!

SUNDAY A FIELD

A field Sunday would be a tough one, dry and windy conditions would make for some difficult scenting. A good run in this field would be truly earned! Allen Webb and Moose would take 3rd place with an impressive 4/4 run to earn a 778.5. This 8 year old Drahthaar put it all together to get qualified for the regionals! Nice work Al and Moose! Rich Lowe switched from the usual marathon he has to run in the field to a nice bird finding stroll with his CH English Setter Chip. With 4/4, a back, and a score of 836 it would be enough to earn 2nd place! Way to go Rich and Chip! But the bar was set high the first run of the day by Braydon Whitely and his German Shorthair, Roan. Going 5/5 and a back they would tally a 965.5 to win the field and get yet another dog qualified for regionals! Congratulations Braydon and Roan!

SUNDAY B FIELD

B field Sunday would feature three runs over 1000 points! Ryan Taylor and Prince would start the placements off with a 1055.75 point run, finding 5 birds and a back to grab 3rd place! This would be their second placement of the weekend and an impressive one at that! Congratulations on a great trial Prince and Ryan! 2nd place would belong to Ryley Johnson and his young, up-and-coming German Shorthair Sox. The duo would go 6/6 and a score of 1141.5 for a phenomenal run by this young dog! Not only would this be Sox’s first run over 1000 points but it would also be his first placement! Congratulations Ryley and Sox, everyone should be keeping an eye on this team, I have a feeling this is just the start of a long, illustrious career for these two! Barratt Gorshe and Sherlock would go 7/7 and a score of 1231.5 to win the field! Great job Barratt and Sherlock!

I would like to give a huge thank you to all that made this trial happen. From field setup/takedown, getting birds, judging, marshalling, bird planting, etc. There are so many people that help to make these trials happen and we appreciate all that you do, we truly do have the best region in the West, if not the country! A huge thank you to Angie Wonnacott, Lance Hansen, Jared Haddock, Jim Wall, Kelly Irons, Cade Allen, and Layne Peterson for judging! Josh Morris and Maureen Goodrich for marshalling, a huge thank you to Josh for filling in when we were short a marshal and being so willing to work all day!
