Mystery Used Chicken Car Shack
Mystery Used Chicken Car Shack
Does this look familiar to anyone? Per county records, this A-frame was built in 1976, but is believed to be 5-10 years older than that. The original color scheme was red and yellow and I seem to remember it being a chicken place of some sort. It bears a resemblance to a Whataburger but I'm quite certain that's not what it was. The Cream Machine carried over the colors when they occupied the building in the 80's, leaving the structure's exterior unmodified. (1983 yearbook pic here). For some reason I want to remember it originally had school desks in the building, where customers waited for a take out orders. This would of been during my kindergarten/early elementary school days here. Since I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, it stands to reason many memories of this place would be quite vague! After The Cream Machine, I believe this place was vacant for a while before it became a used car lot.

Suitcase Filled with Nails: Lessons Learned from Teaching Art in Kuwait
A spirited artist with a can-do attitude, Yvonne Wakefield leaves behind a secure life in the lush Pacific Northwest to teach art in the desert state of Kuwait. Over the course of six years, she will instruct university-aged Muslim women, earn her students’ trust, and learn the consequences of freedom of expression, taken for granted in one culture but not granted in another. Despite obstacles set by her detractors, she persists, and her students and life in Kuwait flourish. Yet the traps never disappear, only multiply, as others set more for her, intent on denying what they have no desire to understand. Told from the unique perspective of an artist, Suitcase Filled with Nails is a colorful, true, timely, rare and riveting tale about living and coping in the Middle East.
