About Me

Dr. Usama Ijaz Bajwa is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Department of Computer Science, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad. His current responsibilities besides teaching and research are, Coordinator Graduate Program and Program Co-Chair (FIT 2014). He is a PhD in Digital Image Processing from Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE, UET Taxila). He did his M.S. in Digital Image Processing from Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE), Islamabad in 2006. He completed his MSc in computer science from Hamdard University, Karachi back in 2001.After his MSc he joined COMSATS Information Technology Center (CITC)  as an Assistant System Analyst and as Lecturer in the Computer Science Department at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad.

After completing his MS, he served as a visiting researcher at the Medical Imaging Lab, University of South Wales, Wales, United Kingdom.Usama's last assignment was as a Team Lead in an ICT R&D funded project "Automatic Personal Identification Biometric Systems for Large Scale Application" (APIBS).

Since January 2008, he has been associated with the Vision and Pattern Recognition Systems (VisPRS) Research Group, comprising of more than 20 members including 3 post doctoral researchers, 12 PhD and 6 Masters research students. The group has successfully completed two R&D projects funded by Ministry of IT and Telecom, Pakistan, related to Biometrics and Video Encoding respectively.

His research interests include biometrics, pattern recognition, computer vision and natural language processing. He has authored or co-authored 22 international research publications including 9 publications in reputed journals.
