Under Armour Senior Bowl fans will get a chance to “Experience the New South” at this year’s game. The University of South Alabama Jaguar Marching Band will perform at the 62nd game, it was announced today. The pre-game and halftime shows, which are presented by State Farm Insurance, will also include the South Alabama cheerleaders. The 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl is scheduled for 3pm (CT) on January 29th in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game will be televised live by NFL Network.

The USA Jaguar Marching Band recently completed its second season ever. Under the direction of Ward Miller, it has grown to a 200-member ensemble complete with select musicians, a color guard and a feature twirler.

“We’re just excited because not only do we get to represent ourselves and the University of South Alabama in this high profile event but also because we feel that this is a Mobile tradition and we are very much a part of the Mobile landscape,” Miller said.

The band will select acts from their “American Salute” show that they performed this past fall at Jaguar football games. That show includes hits like “Morton Gould’s American Salute” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”. The Under Armour Senior Bowl will mark the largest crowd the USA Jaguar Marching Band has ever performed in front of in its two years of existence.

“That’s another reason for us to be excited about because it’s not only a larger crowd than we’ve performed in front of at Ladd Peebles Stadium but it’s also for a lot of folks that haven’t seen us before,” Miller added. “That’s something we stress to the students. Every time we perform we’re performing for someone who’s never seen us before, it’s a first impression so we’re certainly excited about the large crowd.”

The USA Jaguar cheerleaders will be making their first appearance at the Under Armour Senior Bowl. The squad consists of 20-22 cheerleaders who cheer at home football games, specified away football games, bowl games, men’s and women’s home basketball games, the Sun Belt Conference Basketball Tournament and other appearances as assigned.

In addition to the USA Jaguar Marching Band and Jaguar cheerleaders, the winner of the eighth annual Senior Bowl Superstar competition will sing the national anthem prior to kickoff. The competition to determine the next Senior Bowl Superstar begins this Saturday, January 8th in the Mobile Civic Center.
