Founded to foster interest in robotics, the UP Robotics Club provides tools and resources to students of the University of Portland to allow them to research, design, and develop a robot that will compete in NASA's Robotic Mining Competition. The UP Robotics Team is an interdisciplinary team, consisting of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science members. The goal of the competition is to design and develop a regolith excavating robot while adhering to certain design constraints. Last year, the team created the robot "Purple Reign" (also known as "Timbot 2"), based on a front end loader. Thanks to generous support from our sponsors, the device sports custom 3D printed wheels, a carbon fiber bucket, and a plated and powder coated frame.
