The Upper Falls News is an email newsletter about what's going on in our village.  The Upper Falls News is brought to you by the Upper Falls Area Council but it's intended to cover any and all news in the village.

Where am I? - Here's a photo of a spot in Upper Falls without its surrounding context.  The game is to look at the photo and identify where in Upper Falls this foot path is.

The Feast of The Falls - The biggest Upper Falls event in anyone's memory happened last Sunday evening in Hemlock Gorge and it was simply amazing.   250 Upper Falls friends and neighbors sat down at one 250 foot long dinner for an spectacular five course catered dinner in the woods.

Here's a whole series of links about the event:
A recap of the day of The Feast
Story of the preparations for The Feast
A profile of Sean Gaherin, The Feast Crew's fearless leader

The Feast Crew wants to thank each and everyone of the many, many, many people who pitched in, in countless ways, to make this dream a reality.  It happened.  It was spectacular.  And it was the entire community of Upper Falls that made it happen.

We particularly want to thank the Upper Falls CDC for stepping in with financial support when the ambitious plans began to outrun our meager budget.

We have just created a brand new, amazing Upper Falls tradition. Wait until you see next year's Feast!

Hey, We Know That Guy - Al Lewis is an Upper Falls resident and an expert on health care policy.  Such an expert in fact, that the Wall Street Journal published his opinion piece about "Workplace Wellness" programs last week.

From a neighborhood perspective, Al's known more for his Ultimate Frisbee.  Al's always looking for new folks to join in their weekly "ultimate" pickup games.  They play across the river in Cricket Park in Needham  They're a friendly crew, mostly over-40's and teenagers and are always looking for new players - just drop an email to Al and he'll tell you when the next game is.

Souvenirs, Get Your Souvenirs Here - Here's a quick souvenir poster we put together for The Feast Of The Falls.  Feel free to print it, send it, hang it or email it.  Thanks to Evan Weststrate for the photo of the endless table.

TIMBER!!! - A big old honking tree came down on Roundwood Rd in last Tuesday's storm.  Take a look.  Thanks to Anil Adyanthaya for the photo.

Can We Sit on the Patio Please? - The Biltmore's new outside seating area looks like it's nearly done.  The doors have been punched into the bar area, the stone deck is complete, and yesterday they just painted the facing wall.  I'd guess that you could be sipping a cold one or eating your chicken and waffles out there before the fireworks go off on 4th of July.  The even smaller alley way further down the block has also been opened up to be the new pedestrian route from the parking lot to Chestnut St.

Need Help For A Half Baked Plan - We're thinking of organizing a neighborhood event in the autumn called the "Falls To Falls Flotilla".  We'll keep the details vague until we get the plan about 3/4 baked.  In the meantime though, we're looking for some help and expertise.  Here's the question - if one wanted to find or build a floating dock and get it into the Charles River below Rt 9 and above Lower Falls, how would you do it?  If you know the answer, contact us immediately.

Upper Falls School Meeting - A group of residents have been working in recent months on a plan for building an elementary school in Upper Falls.  Their monthly meeting will be this Thursday at 7 PM.  This month's meeting will be in the basement of the Mary Immaculate Church (Elliot & Oak) rather than in their normal Emerson location.  If you'd like to see a new elementary school in Upper Falls, then stop by, learn about the plans, and see how you might help.

Did You Know ... that if you yelled continuously for 1 year, 7 months, 26 days, 20 hours, 26 minutes and 40 seconds, you would produce enough sound energy to heat a cup of coffee? ... but I think I know some kids that could do it faster  "Did you know ..." features an interesting and random fact every issue, collected by ten-year-old Upper Falls resident Jayla Reilly.

Send Us Your News - If you have any upcoming events, activities, news, trivia, stories, anecdotes or jokes related to Upper Falls just send them to news@UpperFallsNews.org and we'll include them in the next newsletter.  For those who prefer living in the past, back issues of the Upper Falls News are archived at UpperFallsNews.org.

'Where Am I" Answer - That path starts at the corner of High St, and the Route 9 entrance ramp.  Inside that hump of dirt and grass is the Sudbury aqueduct.  At one time, it was the main water feed for all of Boston.  From that intersection, the aqueduct runs down to the back of a house on Chestnut St, goes underground, under Chestnut, across Echo Bridge, and then (last Sunday) under a 250 foot long dinner table with 250 happy guests eating their dinner.
