The Upper Falls News
The Upper Falls News is an email newsletter about what's going on in our village.  The Upper Falls News is brought to you by the Upper Falls Area Council but it's intended to cover any and all news in the village.

Where am I? -  Here a photo of a spot in Upper Falls without its surrounding context.  The game is to look at the photos and identify where in Upper Falls you can find this garden.

The Feast is Coming!!! - The biggest Upper Falls event in years is right around the corner.   160 tickets for upcoming The Feast of The Falls on June 23, were made available to Upper Falls residents last Sunday night and by morning they were all gone.  Another smaller block will be released to many of those on the waiting list this weekend.  It's still not too late to get on the waiting list (no guarantees though).

The remaining 20 tickets are now up for auction to the highest bidders no matter where they live.  Tell your friends across the city about the ticket auction and urge them to bid those tickets up to ridiculous prices.  All the money raised will go to Upper Falls based causes (see below).

The Feast at the Falls is a gift from our local businesses (Dunn Gaherins and Better Life Food Catering) and organizations (Tzu Chi Foundation and Upper Falls CDC) to the people of Upper Falls.  The entire event is being provided free to residents through the generosity of the local businesses, our Buddhist friends and the CDC but they'll need your help.  We could use all sorts of volunteers to help out with everything from preparation, decoration, checking folks in, etc.  Click here if you can help.

On the night of the event, we'll be passing the hat for donations to support both local projects (Friends of Hemlock Gorge and Emerson Playground Rebuilding) and global projects (Tzu Chi Foundation Disaster Relief).  We're asking all of the guests to decide how much the Feast was worth to them, and donate that amount to the hat.  So don't forget to bring your wallet!

The table clothed dinner table will be 250 feet long!  The VIP staff of waiters and waitresses will feature some of the most well known faces of Upper Falls.  Echo Bridge will be decorated.  The trees will be lit.  The music will waft through the woods.  There's even been some unconfirmed rumors that King Pong may make an appearance at some point. It is going to be an amazing spectacle that no one should miss.

Biltmore's Patio Moving Along - Construction on the new patio between the Biltmore and Sol's old barber shop continues.  They painted the wall, laid down a stone tiles and opened up the wall.  It looks like it won't be long before you'll be able to sit outside at the Biltmore.

Mmmm Weeds - Pat Kaufman from High Street's got an interesting recipe.  This Sunday morning from 9AM - noon we'll be pulling out mustard garlic plants from Hemlock Gorge and Quinnobequin Rd.  It's a very destructive invasive species that spreads like wildfire and drives out everything in it's path.  We need as many folks as possible to come and help out.  It's easy work and no previous knowledge necessary. Meet us at the parking lot at the bottom of Ellis St at 9 AM and wear long pants and closed toe footwear.  This year, rather than have the DCR dispose of all the plants, we may save a bag of the weed and try out Pat's recipe for mustard garlic pesto. She tried it not too long ago and said it was delicious.

Did You Know ... that an ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain?  (and they've been clocked at running at speeds up to 44 MPH)  "Did you know ..." features an interesting and random fact every issue, collected by ten-year-old Upper Falls resident Jayla Reilly.

Send Us Your News - If you have any upcoming events, activities, news, trivia, stories, anecdotes or jokes related to Upper Falls just send them to news@UpperFallsNews.org and we'll include them in the next newsletter.  For those who prefer living in the past, back issues of the Upper Falls News are archived at UpperFallsNews.org.

'Where Am I" Answer -  That's the beautiful raised garden beside the The Depot, in front of what will soon be the Upper Falls Greenway.
