The Upper Falls News is an email newsletter about what's going on in our village.  The Upper Falls News is brought to you by the Upper Falls Area Council but it's intended to cover any and all news in the village.

Where am I? - Here's a photo of a spot in Upper Falls without its surrounding context.  The game is to look at the photo and identify where in Upper Falls this mess of a wirescape is.

Family Fun Day at the Park - This Saturday June 1st, from 2 - 5PM, the Upper Falls Area Council will be holding the "Picnic for the Park" at the Emerson Playground.  You bring the picnic, they'll bring the fun.  There will be all sorts of fun, games and activities for the whole family.  The event will kick off the Emerson Playground - Building it Together project.  Come and take a look at the proposed plans for the new playground and put your two cents in.

It's going to be a hot day so there will be some water activities - maybe water balloons, maybe water cannons - the kids might want to wear a bathing suit.

Potato Launcher - Mark Bridger sent this spectacular photo of his potato cannon in mid-launch.  For those of who you who may not be experts on vegetable based artillery - a potato launcher is a small cannon made out of PVC pipe that uses hair spray as the propellant.  A well made potato launcher can fire a potato into near earth orbit (no, not really).  Mark does want to reassure his neighbors that he limits his potato launches to the woods of central Maine.  There's no need to worry about Mark's spuds falling from the sky here in Upper Falls... at least from Mark's potato launcher.

It turns out that Upper Falls is a hot bed of potato launchers.  Coincidentally, the Upper Falls News is also the proud owner of it's own potato launcher.  We keep ours here at the Upper Falls News editorial office, in case we ever need to fend off marauding mobs from Waban.

Trees on TV - Here's a preview of an upcoming show on NewTV.  It's called The Arborist and this edition is about the trees of Hemlock Gorge.

Future of Needham St - A community meeting will be held on June 6, 7-9PM at Countryside School about a redesign of Needham St.  Representatives from both the city of Newton and the state's Department of Transportation will be presenting their plans and soliciting comments.

Did You Know ... cockroach can live up to a week without its head"Did you know ..." features an interesting and random fact every issue, collected by ten-year-old Upper Falls resident Jayla Reilly.

Send Us Your News - If you have any upcoming events, activities, news, trivia, stories, anecdotes or jokes related to Upper Falls just send them to news@UpperFallsNews.org and we'll include them in the next newsletter.  For those who prefer living in the past, back issues of the Upper Falls News are archived at UpperFallsNews.org.

'Where Am I" Answer - That's the view across High Street from the corner or High and Pettee St.  It looks like many years of stringing up just one more wire.
