Clinic for Therapy Services

The Clinic for Therapy Services (CTS) is a college-based clinic of the University of the Philippines Manila – College of Allied Medical Professions (UP-CAMP) that provides a venue for service, training, and research for the students and faculty members.

The college envisions the clinic to become a nationally recognized center that is responsive to the needs of Filipinos and that provides clinical education of the highest standard; offers programs and services that are innovative, collaborative and client centered; and generates knowledge through research that influence policies and practice in the allied health professions in the Philippines.

With genuine concern for the Filipino people, CTS aims to provide the following:
  • clinical education that is geared towards developing professional competencies that are built upon scientific and sound problem solving, and ethical and reflective thinking;
  • programs and services that are accessible to a greater number of Filipinos and serve the needs of people of different age groups and social roles; that target factors related to the individual, task and environment in preparation for integration into the community; and that emphasize collaboration in the care and prevention of disability and promotion of health and well-being;
  • new knowledge founded on scientific evidence and disseminated to a broad audience to promote and maintain best practice in the allied health professions in the country;
  • support for endeavors of the college that are geared toward uplifting education, service and extension, and research in the allied medical professions.

Since 1992, the clinic has been providing quality physical, occupational and speech therapy services to children with developmental disabilities and other special needs. The clinic offers rehabilitation services to help children with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, autism, mental retardation, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cleft lip and palate, hearing impairment, and visual impairment among others. Some of the present programs of the clinic for the pediatric population include early intervention, developmental skills training, gross and fine motor skills training, activities of daily living training, sensory integration, cognitive training, behavior management, speech and language development, and feeding and dysphagia management.

In 2002, CTS expanded its program to include rehabilitation services for adolescents with developmental disabilities and adults with a variety of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Some of the new programs that were developed because of this expansion include fitness training for adolescents and adults with neurologic conditions, home and workplace assessment, pre-vocational training, splinting, socialization training and voice rehabilitation.

The Clinic for Therapy Services is a charity clinic which handles an average of a thousand patients per month. The families of most of these patients served by the clinic belong to the low-income bracket. They come from the different parts of Metro Manila, and from the nearby provinces of Cavite, Laguna and Bulacan.
