The Wildcat Running Club is open to the University of Arizona students, faculty, and locals who love to run! We meet Sunday through Friday. During the week, we meet in front of the Rec at 5:00 pm M-Fr. These runs have a specific running theme in mind, which are led by our elected student "run leaders". Typical running themes include: speed, long-run, strength, easy run, and a fun day. However, on Sundays we typically go on a destination run somewhere off-campus (ie: Saguaro National Park, Sabino Canyon, Pima Canyon, etc.).
Each February we participate in Ragnar Del Sol, a 200 mile relay race that takes runners on an exhilarating journey from Wickenburg,AZ to Tempe, AZ. Members have the option of running on the regular (12-person) or ultra (6-person team). It doesn't matter which team you're on, since you'll have a blast no matter what! In addition to Ragnar, our club also participates in the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association (NIRCA), which allows competitive runners to race against neighboring universities like UCLA, Stanford, Cal Poly and other running clubs from around the Southwest region. This past November, we traveled to Los Angeles, California to compete against the best running clubs in the region which was a great trip! In the NIRCA regional championships in Los Angeles, we had multiple top 10 finishers on the girls side including a 3rd place finish by Eleanor Ferguson which brought us the overall team title on the girls side which was a huge moment for our club!
This past April, we also hosted the first annual Sprint Into Spring 5k community race where we donated all of our proceeds from that race to the American Cancer Society. This race was an overwhelming success for our first race as we were able to raise and donate over $800 to the American Cancer Society! We hope to build on this success in the coming years as this will be an annual event every April with the goal of raising $1,000 for the American Cancer Society!
