The Service Oriented Computing Research (SOCR) Group aims to pursue long-term research in Web service engineering and management, business processes, business intelligence, service and process analytics, cloud service engineering and management. SOCR’s presence has enabled CSE to move rapidly – concurrently developing research, teaching, postgraduate supervision capability and leadership in service-oriented systems engineering and management. Most past SOCR research graduates and post-docs are now academics or researchers in reputable universities or prestigious research labs.

SOCR attracted substantial research funding including ARC and DEST competitive grants (excluding ARC Research Network and CRC funding). SOCR members published widely in prestigious conferences and journals (including papers with very high citations worldwide). SOCR acted as UNSW node leader of ARC Research Network in Enterprise Information Infrastructure (EII), founding partner of CRC Smart Services, member in the new  Data to Decisions CRC, and maintains active collaboration with major research groups worldwide including the Centre for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security, Purdue Un. - USA, The European Research Institute on Services Science, Tilburg Uni.- Netherlands, Social Informatics Research Group, Trento Uni and many other.

Current research topics include:
  • Interoperability, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), Web services composition, Business Process Management
  • Federated cloud resources configuration and orchestration
  • API/Service Design and Engineering
  • Quality control in crowd sourcing services
  • Crowdsourcing for Vulnerability Discovery Programs
