The Current Situation
Ageing is still not a priority of the United Nations!
No budget, no staff, no agency on ageing!
(read a) International Day of Older Persons Panel Report 2010 on this website +  the 2011 latest Bulletin of the AFICS, Association of the former intl civil servants of the UN)
Despite the evidence of demographic and scientific data showing the growing issues and specific needs of older persons around the world, the older persons are still the 'invisible population' and the issue of ageing is not addresse at the UN. This situation persists since decades. Thus, everywhere in the world programmes and funds are allocated to targeted populations and the older persons remain discriminated and left out of the Millennium Development Goals and the International concern
The objective of this website is to share the concerns about the lack of policy and programmes, but also  the progress and the work accomplished by the NGO Committee on Ageing at the United Nations in Geneva since more than a decade.
The NGO  committees on Ageing in Geneva collaborates closely with the NGO committees on ageing in New York and Vienna
The members constituting the committee are accredited to the United Nations and  have consultative status with ECOSOC.
The Committees aim at working at the governmental and non-governmental level in order to lobby for ageing issues, to raise awareness, mainstream aging and age-specific policies in all the work and agenda of the United Nations and NGO.
Specific priorities have been developed by each committee, depending partly on the United Nations agencies priorities in the area.
