     The iAnt Gen 4 uses a custom cut acrylic chassis and commercially available motors, Arduino microcontroller and add-on shields.  An Apple iPod Touch (4th Gen, 8GB) is connected via a Redpark Serial Cable and provides forward and down-facing cameras, as well as wireless communication.  Cost of the complete robot is approximately $500.





    Behavior of the iAnts is generated via a genetic algorithm written in Objective-C.  Multiple behavioral parameters are evolved and then programmed into the robots.  The GA can be run with or without a graphical user interface.  GA can also be run in a simulation mode, with no evolution, as a means of verifying behavioral parameters.
