UNKNOWNjp is the pseudonym of a talented Japanese composer Tomonari Nozaki, and “Angel” is his first EP on Soun Records. It’s been a while since we’ve heard something like this (and liked it). Mr. Nozaki experiments with tape loops and creates wonderful sweeping pastoral pieces painting landscapes tied up with the most intimate moments of our lives. The whole journey begins with choral compositions “The Advent” and “The Land of Promise”, “Saints Are Coming” – a powerful one evoking glorious moments. Slow moving and faded soundscapes in “Sleeping in Eden”. It should appeal to fans of William Basinski, James Leyland Kirby, Janek Schaefer or Philip Jeck.
