All-level Yoga & Meditation offered on the lawn

Sunday, August 13th 

from 6 - 7 PM. 

Suggested Donation of $5 to benefit future USAI events. 

Join Certified Yoga Teacher Rachel Ruggieri as she leads a gentle yoga class in the field from 6:00-7:00 pm.  Please bring a mat or a towel.  Wear comfortable clothing and bring water. 

No prior yoga experience necessary!

  • Parent and Child Aquatics NEW!  - This is an opportunity for children to learn to swim with the comfort of a parent and the knowledge of a Red Cross instructor. Parents will learn techniques to teach their child how to swim. Children must be toilet trained before starting the class.
  • Level 1 Learn flutter kicking, front/back crawl arms, breathing techniques, and floating. Before starting, children should be comfortable entering the water with a barbell with the help from an instructor.
  • Level 2 Learn coordination of front/back crawl, breathing techniques, jumping, and elementary backstroke. Prerequisite is ability to do a supine and prone float with no assistance.
  • Level 3 Children will refine their freestyle and backstroke and learn breaststroke, and diving. Students must be able to swim half a lap of freestyle and backstroke before enrolling in this class.
  • Level 4 Children will continue to refine their freestyle and backstroke, coordinate their breaststroke, learn butterfly, and improve diving. Students must know freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke, and be able to swim at least two laps before enrolling.


  • Lessons for the Competitive Swimmer Open to swimmers who are looking to continue to improve their swimming technique. Every lesson will be a mixture between a workout and personalized feedback.
  • Guard Start: Lifeguarding TomorrowThis is a Red Cross Class for those who are interested in becoming lifeguards but are still too young to become one. Participants will learn rescue skills, first aid, and CPR, and they will demonstrate their skills in a friendly competition with the University guards. Prerequisites include the ability to swim front crawl for 25 yards while breathing to the front or side and the ability to tread water for one minute using arms and legs. Open only to ages 8-14.


  • Adult Swimming Lessons – FREE! - Adult lessons are for ALL levels. This is a great class if you are looking to feel more comfortable in the water, if you want to improve your technique so you can swim effortlessly, or if you want to learn something new.
  • Adult Water Aerobics – FREE! - Water aerobics is a fun form of exercise for those who want to stay in or get in shape. Exercising in water is ideal because the water provides significant resistance while reducing the impact on the joints.

Applications for employment (Senior guards, Lifeguards, Desk attendants) at University Pool for Summer 2017 are now being accepted. Applications should be submitted online through these links (click on this announcement post to access links). 

The application deadline is April 22, 2017. Interviews will take place on May 6.

2017 Annual Meeting

The 2017 USAI Annual Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday March 15, at 7:00 PM.  

The meeting will be held in the Ruth Dill Johnson Crockett Building at 162 Ryders Lane, New Brunswick.  The Ruth Dill Johnson Crockett Building is located on the stretch of George St./Ryders Lane that leads to the traffic light that goes to Sears and the Labor Education Center area. It is directly behind a smaller women’s program building. Parking is available in lot #71 right outside, and also in lot #71A, which is just past the buildings. For directions, see:

The University Swimming Association, Inc, (USAI) located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. has openings for the 2017 summer season for a Swim Club Manager and Assistant Manager.

Adult Swim Meet

Dear Membership, this is to remind all interested adults to sign up for the 2016 adult swim meet that will take place July 16 starting about 12:00 noon (or right after the swim team’s home meet finishes).  The adult swim meet is a fun event where adults get to compete in 25 yard races that include traditional swimming strokes and some quirky events like the doggie paddle (barking while competing is encouraged), feet first swimming, and 4x25 t-shirt relays.  Sign up information and sheets will be posted on the bulletin board at the pool.  

Any adult can participate – it is not limited to adults with children on the swim team. 


If there is a large demand for a longer individual events, or different events, the meet sponsors will add events (or remove any events that no one signs up for).   Please email Robert Roesener with event or race-length ideas.  He will discuss any new ideas with those who sign up on the day of the adult meet.  His email is  Finally, anyone who wants to volunteer to be a captain for the day, please let Robert know.  Everyone who signs up will be assigned to one of the two teams:  the slugs (a/k/a the sea slugs) and the snails.
