APhA events for this week:
Monday, April 20:
We are having a Wine Tasting event that serves as a fundraiser.  It is a great networking opportunity for faculty and students, and an opportunity to celebrate the chapter reaching 3000 patients through its patient care events this year!  Purchasing a ticket for the event enters you into a raffle.  Tickets are $30 and include 5 wine pours, appetizers, and entrance into a raffle.  The event is this at Bascule (a new wine bar on Taylor Street). The address is 1421 West Taylor Street, just west of Loomis Street (1400 West.

Tuesday, April 21: GBM @ lunch, Rm 134-1
Please join us for the last guest speaker lecture of the year with the UIC COP alumnus Dr. Ajjarapu. Dr. Ajjarapu will share the preceptor’s perspective of how to survive rotations as well as prepare yourself for graduation and job/residency search. He will also touch upon school loans and managing personal finances - what he wish he knew as a student. This would be a fun, dynamic and out-of-ordinary lecture, so come with questions that have been bothering you, all of them will be answered!

-Operation Self-Care blood glucose & blood pressure screening event @ Community Health, 11am to 1pm

Operation Self-Care will be finishing up the semester with a blood glucose and blood pressure screening event at Community Health on 4/25 from 11am to 1pm. Operation Self-Care will be at Community Health on 4/13 from 4:30 to 8:30p providing education on high cholesterol! This is a great way to practice your teaching skills with patients one on one.

The Elam Davies Health Fair is this Sunday, 4/19. Operation Self-Care will be present to discuss alcohol safety! The population at this health fair is pretty unique, so its a great way to expose yourself to new encounters!

Operation Self Care has the following events coming up!

  • Community Health - Cholesterol Education from 4:30p to 8:30p on 4/13/15. Feel free to sign up for hours your available. Community health is located at 2611 W. Chicago Ave! Great place to provide information at and make some connections with great pharmacist that also work at UIC!
  • Elam Davies Health Fair - Alcohol Awareness! On 4/19/15 Operation Self Care will be part of this large health fair, providing information about alcohol and how it impacts various disease states!
  • Community Health - Blood Glucose and Blood Pressure Screenings. On 4/25 from 10am to 1p we'll be performing these screenings for patients at the clinic.

Operation Self Care has a few opportunities to educate and work with patients over the next couple of weeks. Sign up for any or all!

  • This Thursday, 4/2, we'll be over on East Campus providing information on eating disorders and performing screenings!
  • Monday April 13th, we'll be at Community Health providing blood pressure and blood glucose screenings! Great way to get some early experience P1's, P2's great way to keep those skills sharp. Great for P3's as you'll counseling real patients in a couple of weeks!
  • Sunday April 19th, we'll be at the Elam Davies center at The Fourth Presbyterian Church discussing alcohol! We'll be working with the homeless population!
  •  Saturday April 25th, we'll be at Community Health again! Same thing, same place, different time!
