Mary Baldwin College, a private college for women located in Staunton, is home to the Hunt Gallery. The Hunt Gallery features rotating exhibits of contemporary professional artists of regional or national and international acclaim. The featured artists’ styles range from abstract to classical, and reflect a wide variety of media and artistic intentions. Mary Baldwin College’s art gallery is also located in Hunt Hall. The space is a single, rectangular room approximately thirty by fifty feet, with a single line of track lights running long ways through the gallery, and with several windows and different entrances. Local emerging professional artists are able to submit exhibitions to show their work. The gallery features a different exhibition every few months so the space is constantly changing, keeping the community interested and returning for more. The Director of the Hunt Gallery, Paul Ryan, is also a professor of art at Mary Baldwin University. Hunt Gallery has five professional exhibitions scheduled for each academic year, concluding each season with the Mary Baldwin student work shown at the end of the spring semester. The gallery also has a Facebook page allowing users to follow the goings-on of the gallery.
