The Unitarian Church of Barneveld Thanks Dr. Jay Williams 2011-2012

The Unitarian Church of Barneveld thanks Dr. Jay Williams, longtime friend and sought-after speaker, who served as our minister from September 2011 through December 2012.

Dr. Williams retired from his professorship in the Religious Studies Department of Hamilton College in June, 2011, where he taught for 50 years. He educated countless students and others about the world’s perennial wisdom traditions, inspiring his listeners to explore that which is ‘of the essence’ in those traditions. Dr. Williams has also had an illustrious career as a writer and researcher as evidenced by a long list of published works—books and articles—which may be accessed through Hamilton College’s website.

The congregation bade farewell to Rev. Dr. Lynn Ashley upon her retirement at that time, as well, after seven and a half years of much appreciated ministry. Since Rev. Dr. Williams has been a frequent speaker and conversation leader at the Unitarian Church in the past, congregants are grateful for his presence and guidance during our time of transition.

Dr. Williams, a graduate of Hamilton College, earned an M.Div. degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He specializes in the philosophy of religion and comparative religion, with emphasis on the traditions of South and East Asia as well as those of the West.

The Unitarian Church is located on Park Avenue in Barneveld on the straight-away into the village from the blinking light on Route 12. Sunday services begin at 10:00 am. The doors at Unity Hall open at 9:45 am for Sunday school, except on each first Sunday of the month when young people join with adults for the church service (including on September 11). The Unitarian Church of Barneveld is a place of religious freedom and acceptance—a caring and progressive community of choice and hope.
