Tosa- Wide Blessing of the Bicycles

posted Mar 13, 2018, 1:22 PM by Kate Fields   [ updated Mar 13, 2018, 1:47 PM ]

On Earth Day, April 22nd, 2018 at 12:15pm at Underwood Memorial Baptist Church (1916 N. Wauwatosa Ave.), come join Underwood Baptist Church, Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church, St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Unity Center in Milwaukee, Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church, and Trinity Episcopal Church for a Tosa-Wide Blessing of the Bicycles!

This will be a brief service in which bicycles are blessed with prayers of safety for the biking season, and prayers of gratitude for how bikes reduce our collective carbon footprint. Ride your bike or bring your bike with you... wearing your usual cycling clothing is welcomed! In addition to the blessing of each bike, there will be a moment of silence to remember those cyclists we’ve lost in the past years.

Everyone is welcome and celebrated!

Holy Week Schedule

posted Mar 4, 2018, 5:37 PM by Kate Fields   [ updated Mar 29, 2018, 12:45 PM by Underwood Baptist Church ]

Dear Underwood, below are the services that will guide us through Holy Week, or the week preceding Easter. The hope is that by engaging in intentional worship and reflection, we can prepare our hearts for Christ's suffering and death, prior to celebrating the resurrection.
On Maundy Thursday, March 29th, we will again partner with Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church for a Foot-washing service at 7pm; this service will be at MMCC (1239 W Mineral St.) This is emulating the night before Jesus' arrest when he bowed to wash the feet of his disciples.
On Good Friday, March 30th, we'll partner with Wauwatosa Presbyterian for a Stations of the Cross experience at 12:00 noon in the Wauwatosa Cemetery. Here, we'll have meditations in different parts of the cemetery which reflect differing aspects of Jesus' trial, walk down the Via Dolorosa, and crucifixion. Please note that this may require some walking on potentially uneven terrain. Underwood's original church building is located in the Tosa Cemetery, as is a memorial to Enoch Underwood and family. Let us return to our roots on Good Friday.

Easter, April 1stwe'll gather at 8:30am for breakfast in the Fellowship Hall and 10:00am for celebrating the resurrection in the sanctuary! Invite friends and family to be come! Please note there will be no Sunday School for adults or children.

Rescheduled Congregational Meeting

posted Mar 4, 2018, 2:28 PM by Kate Fields

Due to the snow on February 4th, the congregational meeting has been rescheduled to March 11th, 2018

All folks connected to Underwood: You are invited to be a part of the congregational meeting that will take place within the Sunday's service on March 11th. Though this isn't a business meeting, it will be an important visioning conversation in the life of our congregation.

It takes us all to create the unique, powerful, and prophetic community of Underwood Memorial Baptist Church. We need the whole church body to: listen to the Spirit stirring, look at what gifts we have to share in this community, converse about future steps, and commit to those. Please make plans to be there!

Just a mention that Church service will be ON for today.  We are cancelling Sunday School and rescheduling the congregational meeting to a later date.  We will communicate that out later and give folks time to plan.  The service today will still consist of the scripture, liturgy, and communion.  Join us if you are able and travel safe.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

posted Jan 23, 2018, 2:42 PM by Kate Fields

CALLING ALL UNDERWOODERS  Please mark down Sunday, February 4th, 2018 in your calendars. During our 10:00am Sunday morning worship, we'll have an important congregational meeting within the worship service. We'll line the front of the sanctuary with chairs, and sit, sing, and take Communion prior to our congregational meeting. The Strategic Visioning Taskforce will be presenting the information that they have collected in the last year about the status of Underwood, as well as recommendations for the future. Then, the floor will be opened up to everyone to contribute ideas, ask questions, and vision together. There will not be a vote in this meeting, but we do need all voices from Underwood to contribute to the collective conversation!

Underwood will gather for our first Spirituality Retreat to be held at the Stable House on Saturday, November 11th, from 1pm-5pm. We will learn communal practices, individual practices, and we'll close with an evening prayer service around a fire. Come expecting a deeply meaningful experience within your faith journey, with God, and with others in our community. Bring a journal and pen. If you can only come for part of the day, come on!
