Holy Week Schedule (so many ways to be involved!)

posted Apr 1, 2017, 2:23 PM by Kate Fields

Sunday, April 9th                             PALM  SUNDAY – Underwood Church

Wednesday, April 12th                   HOLY WEDNESDAY, 7 p.m. – Metro. Community Church

Thursday, April 13th                       MAUNDY THURSDAY, 7:30 p.m. – Underwood Church

Friday, April 14th                              GOOD FRIDAY, NOON – Tosa Presbyterian Church

Sunday, April 16th                           EASTER SUNDAY, 10 a.m.          Underwood Church

HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE  We will have a number of services on Holy Week as we prepare our bodies, hearts, and minds for the most central part of the Gospel, the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. One of these services will be at Underwood, but the other two will be in conjunction with other congregations as we seek to nurture our ecumenical partnerships in one of the most powerful ways: worshiping the Lord together. Please make plans to come to these services as we observe Holy Week as we do everything: together.

Palm Sunday (April 9): Regular Worship at Underwood Baptist at 10am

Holy Wednesday (April 12): 7pm. Eucharistic Meal & Potluck with Metropolitan Community Church and Calvary UCC in Wauwatosa. This meal will be held at Metropolitan Community Church (1239 W Mineral St, Milwaukee, WI 53204) and will be a replica meal of what would have been eaten at the Last Supper of Christ. Communion will be served as we gather around tables to eat foods of the 1st Century, potluck style.

Maundy Thursday (April 13): At 7:30pm, Underwood Baptist will host a Foot & Hand Washing Service in conjunction with Metropolitan Community Church where we will gather in Underwood's Sanctuary. Foot-washing is a very Baptist tradition and we will revive it at Underwood this Holy Week; it was first modeled for us by Christ prior to the Last Supper. You can expect a worship service that will include prayers, singing, and a time where those who would like gather in a line and wash someone's feet (or hands if you'd prefer) and have your feet washed. Foot-washing is an act of humility, a gift, and an act of service; it models well how we seek to love and serve each other in humility here at Underwood.

Good Friday (April 14): From 12-1pm, Underwood Baptist will partner with Wauwatosa Presbyterian and Bethany-Calvary United Methodist in Wauwatosa for a joint worship service, hosted at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church (2366 N 80th St, Wauwatosa, WI 53213). This will be a somber service commemorating the death by crucifixion of Christ.

Easter Sunday (April 16): Underwood will celebrate Christ's resurrection by continuing the tradition of having a short early morning service at 8:00am in the Fireside Room, then breakfast at 9:00am, and the full service at 10:00am in the sanctuary.*

*If you need a ride to any of these services, please holler at Pastor Kate.

HOT CIDER & HYMNS! On Friday, February 24th at 7:30pm, come to Underwood's Fellowship Hall to drink hot cider and sing hymns that have been sung for decades upon decades. This isn't a worship service or a concert; rather, we'll gather, socialize, and sing the hymns a Capella. Bring a friend with you and let's see what we create with beautiful voices singing old hymns. Holler at Pastor Kate (revkateunderwood@gmail.com) with any questions; you can also RSVP via the Facebook event.
