Scott McCloud

Scott McCloud is the pseudonym for Scott Willard McLeod.  McCloud/McLeod is the author of numerous comics and books about the comic form, including Understanding Comics
He was born June 10, 1960, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Willard Wise (an inventor and engineer) and Patricia Beatrice McLeod.  He graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 1982 and married Ivy Ratafia (a storyteller and a director of children's theater) in 1988.  He and his wife have two children: Sky Rosamund and Winter Wise.

He's very well known in the comic book community and is lauded as "
paving a way into that community of people who are literally the guardians of our cultural future: teachers and academicians who assign quality and value to all of literature" (Will Eisner in Comics Journal as quoted in Contemporary Authors Online).

"
McCloud's first major work, Zot!, is a futuristic comic book series about a teenage youth searching for the "Doorway at the Edge of the Universe. ...McCloud's other comic book title, Destroy!!, is a violent thirty-two page parody of comic-book superheroes" (Contemporary Authors Online).

McCloud is also known for inventing "24 hour comics" after convincing a fellow artist to create a 24-page comic in one day.  McCloud's idea has resulted in a 24 Hour Comics Day where participants attempt to create a 24 page comic made by a single individual in 24 consecutive hours.
