About us

It all started when Harry met Allan.

Harry met Allan in 1994 when he walked into Allan’s suburban health food store to suggest his home made veggie burgers be added them to the shop’s sandwich bar menu.

The Harry’s burgers sold well for many months but his supply ended a year later upon his death from Lupus in 1995.

Allan never knew Harry’s recipe or method but recognising the growth of vegetarian foods, he decided to create his own innovative burger recipe from scratch.

Allan didn’t want a ‘Me too” traditional soy or lentil veggie burger so he selected quality 100% Australian vegetables and grains instead.

Although Allan’s burger was different to Harry’s, he honoured his friend and named his new product ‘Uncle Harry’s Natraburgers®”, designed for both vegetarians and meat lovers (Meatarians).

After several months testing his burgers on shop customers, Allan confidently moved production into the back room of his health food shop.

His marketing experience kicked in and Allan obtained approval by the Heart Association’s (Tick), had retail and food service packaging designed, and took a stand at the Sydney 1995 Fine Food Show to formally introduce Natraburgers®.

With over 300 enquiries received during the 4 day show, Uncle Harry’s Natural Foods P/L began business.

From that simple beginning, Uncle Harry’s range expanded to 20 items--four flavour recipes and five popular shapes.

Today Uncle Harry’s range offers burgers, steaks, sandwich slices, bites, and long-sub-roll strips in Mushroom, Sweet Potato and Couscous, Famous Original, and Mexicana Chilli flavours.

All items are oven baked ready to heat and serve in dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, BBQ’s, parties and after school eat-ups.

Over the last 21 years, in addition to the Tick, Uncle Harry’s products were approved by NSW School Canteen association, Halal and Kosher food authorities. Uncle Harry’s has been HACCP approved for 12 years.

Meanwhile food service sales rose and NSW hospitals, universities, Correction Services and cafes all serve Uncle Harry’s products.

Distribution is both direct and through large frozen food distributors: Bidvest, PFD, St. George, Epic Wright Heaton(EWH), and Marrickville Freezers.  New distributors are being contacted.

In 2005 Allan moved Uncle Harry’s production into its current Homebush West factory which is custom designed features a 15 pallet freezer, an 8 pallet cool room and a HACCP approved kitchen.

Although Uncle Harry’s Natraburgers Famous Original frozen pack has previously been stocked by Coles(6 years), Woolworth’s supermarkets(2 years) and Thomas Dux(3 years).

Current vacuum packs are stocked by IGA Enmore and King Street Grocer, Newtown.
