* Welcome to Wesley *

Kick-off to a new year!

Returning and new students enjoyed a cookout, games, and worship at
our Annual Kick-off on September 10th.
Special thanks to Maddie Dietrich, Eve Hillman, Brian Fowlkes, Rabi Osagie, Augustine Osagie,
Kevin Howard, Eric Donarski, and Olivia Mitchinson for making this event a success!

Join us this Wednesday, October 18th at 8:00pm for a presentation by
Washtenaw County Circles, a program working to address poverty by empowering
people with skills, knowledge, and support to achieve self-sufficiency.
Come learn how to help end poverty in our community.

This past Sunday, the Wesley Foundation board voted to join Washtenaw Congregational Sanctuary as a solidarity congregation
to welcome immigrants. Wesley is now the first official "solidarity"
campus ministry at U of M.

This fall, Wesley will hold a special Bible study titled Church Between Borders, to explore more deeply the themes of immigration policy and the church's role in welcoming the stranger. The study will be held every other Tuesday for 4 weeks starting Sept. 26 at 7:00pm.

For a glance at this interactive and eye-opening study, please visit the CRC Office of Social Justice website.

Wesley is opening our very first Food Bank this fall in order to
provide non-perishable goods to students and immigrants facing food insecurity. There will be open hours for students
to collect food each week, as well as on an appointment basis.

Wesley students worked hard to put together shelving for our new food bank in the Octagon room.

Mission Statement

The Wesley Foundation at the University of Michigan is a United Methodist campus ministry providing varied opportunities and programs for all students and other campus-related persons. We are a pluralistic community academically, theologically, and by age and interest. All students from nearby universities such as University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Concordia University, and Washtenaw Community College are welcome.

We are also a community of persons committed to caring, sharing, serving, learning, and growing with each other regardless of ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital or economic status, disability, or other human differences. Our common bond is God's love shown through Jesus Christ. Our emphases include concern for the social implications of the gospel in the world and personal growth as Christians.

Welcome to Ann Arbor!

Supporting Wesley

Thanks to the help of many people, the Wesley Foundation at the University of Michigan has survived on this campus for over 100 years! In order to keep our mission going, please consider donating to our PayPal account. If you are in the area and would rather donate your time, consider emailing Maddie Dietrich about providing a Sunday meal, emailing Eve Hillman about helping lead a service project or helping lead a social action focused outing, or Robert Roth about anything else you may think of. We thank all those who help and those who continue to help us!

Emma Lozano Visit

On November 8th at 7:00pm, we are thrilled to be welcoming Pastor Emma Lozano and Sara Walker from Lincoln UMC in Chicago to Wesley.

Emma and Sara will be sharing about their church's efforts to support undocumented immigrants in sanctuary, a practice their church has taken very seriously as a call to live out their faith to protect the community.

Immigration Activism
This summer Wesley has been very involved in studying immigration issues. Following our Welcoming the Stranger Bible study, we capped off the summer with an Immigration 101 session, where attorney Melanie Goldberg helped us understand some of the complexities of visas, legal statuses, and refugees.

Wesley is looking for students interested in joining FUMC's Immigrant Hospitality Team, a group that meets to plan logistics for supporting immigrant families taking sanctuary, or living in a church building, to prevent a deportation. This team is part of the larger county-wide network Washtenaw Congregational Sanctuary. For more info contact Becky Dean at rebecca.dean11@gmail.com.
