Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy (UMSA) is the leading state higher educational institution in training for both Physicians and Dentists. The Academy started its activity in 1921 as the Odontologic Faculty of the Kharkiv Medical Academy. In 1967 the Institute was transferred to the city of Poltava and renamed as the Poltava Medical Stomatological Institute, which in 1994 was granted the highest (IV) accreditation level and the status of the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy. Its accreditation level IV was confirmed in 2004.
3,615 students study at the Academy today, including 938 international students from 42 different countries. There are Stomatological and Medical Faculties, the Preparatory Faculty for international students training, the Postgraduate Faculty and the Preparatory Training course Department. A medical college, training bachelors and junior specialists, has been founded based on the UMSA.
56 chairs, including 9 leading ones, function at the Academy. Clinical and consulting work is carried out at 35 clinical chairs of the Academy, located at the best regional and city medical establishments of Poltava.

The scientific potential of the UMSA is represented by 82 Doctors of Medical Science, 316 Candidates of Science, 75 professors, 174 assistant professors, 2 winners of the Ukrainian State Prize, 8 Honoured Science and Technology Workers of Ukraine, 6 Honoured physicians of Ukraine.
There have been a number of considerable changes at the Academy for the last decades having raised our higher institution on a new competitive level of specialist training and implemented the latest modern technologies of education.
A great reputation of the Academy was confirmed by two Silver and one Bronze Medals received at the International Exhibition of Educational Institutions “Modern education in Ukraine- 2001, 2002, 2004”.In June 2003 the Academy participated in the rating of the higher educational institutions of Ukraine “Sophia Kyivska”. For the active operation in increasing quality of modern education the UkrainianStomatological Academy was rewarded a Diploma of Rating of Higher Educational institutions. In the nomination “The Third Millennium Quality” the Academy was awarded a Silver Medal and the Diploma of the International Academic Rating of popularity “Golden Fortune”.
From 1999 to 2009 the Academy published over 710 educational and methodical textbooks in various scientific spheres. 106 patents were obtained in Ukraine and in Russia last year. 7 scientific schools have been founded here which function nowadays: operative surgery; topographic anatomy; normal physiology; oral surgery; biological chemistry; pathological anatomy; conservative dentistry; clinical and experimental pharmacology.
Being a member of the UNO and UNESCO Ukraine takes an active part in fulfillment international programs of high education. The UMSA provides assistance to foreign states in training their national medical specialists.
A Faculty for international students was founded in 1992 in order to improve the quality of Medical training for foreign citizens. 938 international students from 42 different countries including Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Pakistan, Libya, Russia, Turkmenistan etc., study at the Academy today. They areguaranteed all the rights and freedoms stipulated by the current legislation of Ukraine. The training of foreign citizens is carried out in accordance with syllabuses and curricula of the Ministry of Education and Science and the MHS of Ukraine. International and Ukrainian students have rights of equal access to lecture rooms, classrooms, reading halls and libraries, sports gyms. The students are also provided with some premises for organizing cultural, religious events and association meetings. The training process is provided by our scholars and educators who have a specialized education and rich experience in working with foreign citizens at the primary stages of their training. Having graduated from the Academy foreign students obtain an international standard Degree.
In 1997 the Dean's Office organized a preparatory Department for international citizens. The students study Russian language, Science Language, the Basics of Maths, Physics, Biology, Informatics, and Ethnology. Overall, the work of the preparatory Department is aimed to adapt the foreign citizens to the lifestyle and training in Ukraine and introduce the culture and traditions of the Ukrainians. Further post diploma education is getting more and more popular among the postgraduates of the Academy. They study at the clinical postgraduate (residency) and postgraduate courses. 32 foreigners graduates of the medical and stomatological Faculties undertake residency at different chairs. More and more foreigners having completed the clinical postgraduate course would like to continue their studies at the postgraduates courses.
The UMSA has one of the foremost dental academies in Europe with a long history of dental training to prepare specialists in the various fields of Dentistry.
History of Dentistry Faculty
Faculty of Dentistry began from September 30, 1921 with the opening of odontology department of the Kharkiv State Medical Academy. Faculty became the first academic institution of higher education specialized training for dentists, a leading center of dental education in Ukraine. The decision of the commission and cross-accreditation by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine of 13 July 1994 № 229 faculty, as a structural unit of the Academy, received the right to train in specialty "Dentistry" for the fourth level of accreditation, with a licensed capacity of reception 350 persons (with the right for training foreign students). Faculty of Dentistry Ukrainian Medical Dental Academy qualified scientific and teaching staff who have practical experience and educational work, and generally provide the needs of the educational process. The Department employed 193 teachers, including 31 Doctor of Medicine (16.06%), 120 Candidates of Medical Sciences (62.18%).

Clinical and technical base of faculty
Clinical Faculty are located in all provincial and municipal hospitals in Poltava. In the educational process is used about 200 dental chairs that provide practical training of students at the appropriate level. Number of dental chairs in Poltava, in which the training of students - 311. Preparation of providing inpatient care is in the maxillofacial department regional hospital (30 beds) and urban children's hospital (8 beds). The faculty developed a computer-based training and successfully operates two modern computer labs and Internet-class, with the possibility of free access to the Internet.
The faculty uses modern multimedia technology. The work of the dental department stipulates the introduction in the educational process modern educational technologies, the latest pedagogical advances, new technologies and treatments.
One of the main challenges for the future is the specialist level of his professional training in a competitive labor market.This encourages teachers to find intensive teaching methods, improving the monitoring of student preparation and educational documents, including the development of guidelines, manuals, teaching development, complex programs for self workshops.Team of students and teachers conducting effective job of creating training manuals in accordance with modern educational programs and requirements issued by the national language. Structure of the educational process
Training in the field of Dentistry carried out in accordance with the schedule of the educational process, which provides length of the training sessions, dates of production practices, public examinations and certification, vacation. Faculty in close cooperation with the administration and management bodies of the Academy created the objective conditions for a proper quality level educational work by optimizing the method and content of training, increasing complexity and objectivity in the assessment of knowledge, improve the financial support of the educational process, its individualization, enhance education in the learning process. The main bases for clinical practice is a hospital and Poltava Region, and regional centers of Ukraine. In general conformity with the clinical, logistical and methodological support for all manufacturing practice courses at the appropriate level.
Training & Studying at the Academy
From 1960 Academy trains doctors from among foreign nationals. In 1992, the Department of training foreign students, which trained 589 doctors to 38 countries.

In 2005 Ischeykin KE elected assistant professor of Dermatology and Venereology. From 2006 to 2008 the deputy dean of the medical faculty, was responsible for the introduction of credit-modular system of study. Ischeykin Konstantin E. PhD is the author of over 60 scientific works, including two monographs, one manual, three declarative patents for utility model .

students in volleyball and football for the past five years, took prizes in
competitions for the cup Rector.

enforcement officials, including OGIRFL Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Poltava
