Vision & Plan 2009-2010

As law students, the Lord has blessed each of us with unique talents which we might use to serve God in our community. The UM CLS Chapter will strive to be known for using our talents to reach CLS stated aims: to “apply the Christian faith to law, reach out to the community with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ, and work for justice at all levels in society.” Here is our vision and plan to engage all CLS members in helping one another to know the truth, grow in community, and go to serve:


1)    Know the Truth:

a)   Seek God’s will for UM-CLS

     i.   Prayer (Ask)

     ii.   Bible Study (Seek)

b)   Hold regularly scheduled         meetings

c)   Host speakers on                      Christianity and the law

 ·     'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty. –Zechariah 4:6

 ·     Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." –John 8:32

 ·     For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. –John 3:16

2)    Grow in Community:

a)   Formalize Membership and      Church Directories

b)   Create a website

c)   Create a Facebook site

d)  Recruit prayer team

e)  Recruit a faculty sponsor

f)   Network with CLS Attorneys

g)  Maintain online calendar of       events

h)  Design CLS t-shirts

i)   Sponsor Ice Cream Social

 ·    And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another….–Hebrews 10:24-25

 ·     Scripture says to love one another, care for one another, pray for one another, exhort one another, encourage one another, greet one another, forgive one another…

 ·     For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. –Matthew 18:20

3)    Go to Serve:

a)   Invite prayer requests

b)   Recruit volunteers

c)   Support member service in      diverse organizations and service projects (Knock):

i. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter projects; Katrina Law Project; St Thomas Moore Society; Ronald McDonald House; Mediators Beyond Borders; International     Justice Mission; Invisible Children; Blood Water Mission; Serve Annapolis; Food Drop on                Annapolis ...

 ·     The second [greatest commandment] is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." –Mark 12:31

 ·     Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. –Mark 10:43-45

 ·     Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. –1 Peter 4:10

 ·     Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.–Matthew 7:7
