There are also other hotels within walking distance of the workshop, which will be in Room 411, West Hall, Central Campus.

Shuttle service

We have arranged for a shuttle between Hampton Inn Ann Arbor-South and West hall.  There will be two trips in the morning, arriving at 8:45 am and 9:45 am; check with the hotel for departure time.  On Monday and Wednesday evening, there will be a return trip from campus to the Hampton Inn South departing at 8pm (leaving time for dinner).  On Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, there will be one return trip at 12:30 pm.

Bus Connection

The main "transit center" for central campus (workshop venue) is the Central Campus Transit Center, known locally as the CC Little stop. The city bus 2A, 2B and 2C routes all pass through the CC Little stop. The total ride would be for about 25 minutes (according to Google maps).  This bus runs between CC Little and the main Blake transportation center, where transfers are available to other buses.

This map shows the larger city picture of the bus routes.

This map shows the downtown/campus area for AA.

Parking on central campus can be problematic. There is a visitor garage (for pay) on S. Forest/Church street, a block south of the East Hall. There is also on-street parking. Here is a link to the map of the relevant part of the campus.  For more information on parking on campus.

Coordinating with other participants

We have a webpage where you can coordinate with other workshop participants to share rides to/from the airport and to share hotel rooms.

Transportation to/from DTW

Here is the official university transportation information.  We highly recommend the AirRide bus to/from DTW. It will pick up passengers very close to the workshop hotel and (less frequently) from the CC Little  transit center, also very close to the workshop.  Taxis are also always an option.  You should arrange a return taxi to the airport one hour ahead of time as it is not always easy to hail a cab in town.

The closest AirRide stop to the Hampton Inn South is the "Kensington Court Hotel" stop.  It's about a half-mile walk east from Kensington Court to the Hampton Inn South, but the walk crosses busy roads and sprawl.  The closest AirRide stop to the workshop venue is "Central Campus Transit Center."  Central Campus (aka CC Little) would be especially recommended if you will arrive at the workshop directly from the airport or if you leave from the workshop directly to the airport, e.g., on the last day.  CC Little is a pleasant walk of a few hundred meters from the workshop venue.  CC Little is also very convenient for several alternative hotels, including the Michigan League and the Ann Arbor Bed and Breakfast.

Another transportation option is Metro Eddie.
