The Applied Biosystems 3130xl or 3100 genetic analysis system is capable of performing many different genotyping methods based on the sizing of fluorescently labeled DNA fragments. These methods include the analysis of Short Tandem Repeats (STR) or Microsatellites, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP), Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP), Terminal-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (T-RFLP)  and Loss of Heterozygosity (LOH).  The ABI 3130xl employs a 16 capillary array. A single run of 16 wells therefore uses the same amount of consumables in all capillaries regardless of the number of wells analyzed during the run.
