Learn to fly

You can learn to fly my Pelican through the X-PLANE flight simulator. For those who don't already use this realistic flight simulator, you can download a demo for free or buy a fully functional copy from WWW.XPLANE.ORG (around $30). Next, download the file Pelican_Ultralight.zip at the bottom of this page. It contains the Pelican computer model and instructions to install the Pelican model into X-PLANE.
Once you get the Pelican running in the simulator, you can train yourself to handle the real aircraft. To make the experience more realistic, you will need a joystick for control. Throttle can be controlled from the keyboard or from a throttle-equipped joystick like the Thrustmaster for example. The Pelican model has been refined to reproduce the reactions of the real Pelican based on what I experienced when flying the real bird. You will need to practice a lot to do smooth landings because it is difficult to judge height close to the ground. But when you look at the plane from behind, you can see its shadow and that gives you a hint of when the wheels are going to touch the ground. Eventually, you will get it. If you have problems setting up this aircraft on the simulator, let me know at: drewcliche@yahoo.ca
