Top 5 Pregnancy Products you Must Have!

When I sat down to create this list, I wanted to provide you with a list of things that you will truly need and use in pregnancy and lactation.  Of course, there are “billions” of products on the market; my goal is to give you a list of the necessities that truly make a world of difference.

1. Body pillow

I could have not slept during my first pregnancy without a body pillow.  This truly is the best investment you will make.  In pregnancy, our bodies produce a hormone called Relaxin, which causes your ligaments and tendons to “stretch” in preparation for the passage of your baby.  This “stretching” can cause pain in the pelvis and low back, making sleeping impossible.  A good body pillow supports you in all of the right places!  This is #1 on my list.

2.The book “what to Expect when you are Expecting”

When I was pregnant with #1 this book was given to me early in my pregnancy as a gift.  I read this book “cover to cover,” it still is the most informational pregnancy book on the market. If you have a question, it is in there!  I just wish they had “What to Expect the First Year” at that time.

3. Palmers stretch mark crème

The truth behind stretch marks is that they are hereditary, and if you were “lucky” enough to get the “stretch mark gene,” there is not a whole lot you can do to prevent them.  My first baby was 10 pounds, I went to 42 weeks, and I was huge!  I had also gained an excessive amount of weight, 60 pounds to be exact.  I had horrible, deep, red stretch marks, and I was devastated.  Through the daily use of this crème after giving birth, they are now barely recognizable.  If I had only known…  I would have lathered up daily with this during pregnancy!

4. Breast pump

Medela truly makes the finest pumps on the market.  They offer a variety of pumps that fit all budgets.  You may be asking yourself, why do I need a pump if I plan on exclusively breastfeeding?  Let me tell you; I breastfed all three of my children for up to a year, and I do not know what I would have done without my pump.  I used it to relieve engorgement during the first few days (which was great because I was able to store that milk), and it also gave me the freedom to “run an errand” knowing that my baby would still be able to have my breast milk.  It was also a “godsend” when I started loosing my milk, within a week of pumping  my supply was up.  For more information, see Breast Pumps

5. Lansinoh Nipple Crème

I cannot say enough about this product.  I recommend this to first-time mommies, as well as fourth time mommies!  This is truly the best nipple crème on the market.
