Getting prepared

Many familiar faces were at the RYA Umpire CPD day held at World Sailing HQ on Saturday. A number of young Umpires, part of the RYA/BUSA diversity initiative, were also present which was heartening. I learnt that BUSA have appointed umpires for their team racing events, so if you haven't heard from them you should be able to plan the housework.

It was an interesting day, with many tips shared, and a glimpse of the future as Craig Mitchell showed us how the Americas Cup is Umpired. In 20 years time we may be able to sit in the bar and do all our umpiring by watching the action on our tablets. When the proceedings are published we will put a link to them on the Umpiring Page.

Meanwhile, down in Portland Harbour they were having perfect conditions for the Winter Match Racing. Unfortunately, it didn't continue and Sunday was too windy, so  the results were based on Saturdays Round Robin with James Morson taking first place, James Clapham second and Sophie Taylor third.
