welcome

Current students - see course on Canvas!

Welcome to the website for ECO 402 for fall 2021. Assignments and announcements are generally posted on Canvas.

Macroeconomics is everywhere! How will the economy recover from the Covid-19 pandemic? How fast will employment return to normal levels, and how "tight" will the job market be - how hard will it be for you to find a job when you graduate? How much has fiscal stimulus helped? What about monetary policy? Taking a more long-term view of the world economy, why are some countries so much richer than others? In addition to discussing the current state of the economy in detail, we'll talk some about 20th century economic history, current research in macroeconomics, and some of the open questions in the field.

The optional textbook is Mankiw's Macroeconomics. Older editions are fine, but make sure it's the version for intermediate macroeconomics (not principles). Notes and/or videos of the lectures will be online, and I write my own homework and exam questions - many students do fine without the book, but if you're someone who prefers reading textbooks, or if you like to see things explained multiple ways, or if you're a little shaky on macro after ECO 202, you might want to consider getting a version of the book.

We'll mostly use Canvas as the course website, but this is here to give you some information before you're formally enrolled in the class.

I look forward to seeing you in August! Take care.
